hey mears,, i am proppa broke but need some testing stuff, i.e. Ph/ ppm /ec/ now i think i understand the ppm, not so sure about the e.c. ,, had some minor probs wiv last grow and decided on my next one i need a propper ph meter instead of drops n colour chart,, but want a wand that aint 50 pounds or more !!! I seen a wand n ph pen for that price, sed it did it all but after readin ur reply there about e.c converting to ppm, so if i had a pen that told me the ppm then i cud just convert and then no need for a e.c reading ? Is this rite and if so where can i get a cheap ppm pen ? Thanx for any response man !!!!!!!!!!! Noob

piece of education: when you state your tds in ppm, the person reading what you wrote CANNOT TELL what the tds of your solution is. use only EC because this is the only way tds can actually be measured. all your ppm meter does is convert is by a non-uniform factor from EC to PPM. if you got one of those that's fine, but don't expect people to guess your conversion factor just like that. they can only tell that it's between 0.5 and 0.7.

whats the difference tho? The meter is just a tool, and either way its giving a single number reading. whether you refer to tds or ec, its still just a reference number with no real data behind it right? With out sending your solution to a lab, you will never know exact particulates that it consists of. So really, we all are shooting arrows in the dark. hope everybody has knee pads....

Hello unohus69,
I just picked up the same meter, what setting are you using for the PPM. I am using the 442. I also am using Dyna grow line. Can you tell me your setting on your meter and your ppm for Dyna grow in veg and flower. I am currently using 5-800 for flower in a DWC situation, and 4-600 in Promix (flowering). I just want to compare things. Homebrewer gave me some advice but really didnt give me a good ppm number to use.

Thanks,
