power strip vs ext. cord

i was at lowes looking at power strips/ surge protectors. they rate them in joules like i know what the fuck that means. so i'm thinking, why not just use a 15 amp rated ext. cord. it has 3 connections so i could put my timer and 1000 watter on one side and use the two others for fans. i should be under the 15 amp limit right?

is there any advantage to using a power strip other than having 6 or more slots?

get a SURGE protector.. you'll feel better

well i have 2 15 amp circuits immediately available. so i figure one light per circuit with an exhaust fan on one and two oscilating fans on the other.

why the power strips and how many joules would i want?

you might melt a power strip, surge protectors handle 1750 watts and 15 amps
