Powdery white spots on surface of ALL leaves.

Have noticed a couple of people on here say that the upper side of the leaves are covered in tiny white spots, and i guess the only way to describe it is it almost looks like white spray paint has been misted onto the leaves from a distance. These are not mites.

Have heard that use of epsom salts can sort of perspire salt particles through the leaves, and have applied epsom salts twice in the life time of both plants (2 that this is happening to), each with lower than dosage of package. However the white spots do not rub off the leaf.

Has anyone else come come to realise what causes this, and is there anyone else out there who has this problem and has applied epsom salts to their plants?

thanks in advance

Sounds like powdery mildew. Picture is worth 1000 words. Realizing that you claim it doesn't rub off, it may be something else. Try to get a pic up for us
