potential light problem....how about none??

Hi rollitup crew!

So my friend is growing (not me lol, I just buy). Problem is, she just got a GINORMUS light bill (not because of the plants, because of a faulty heating system in her home) and there is a slim chance she might not be able to get in the entire bill before they cut the lights....but worse case scenario, the electric would only be out 3 days, max.

She has a simple CFL setup with 6 plants going now. I believe there are about 12 6500k 23w CFL's and a can fan on it now. It puugs into a powerstrip and only takes one outlet to run.

What would you advise she do to ensure the plants get the light and the fan they need to survive for about 3 days with no electricty? Any battery-operated options to at least keep the light on the plants while she sorts out the bill?

Moving the plants is not an option (nosy and party-type neighbors...yes if she went to move at 4am, someone would STILL be up) and her current grow spot is VERY secure and light/smell proof. She is about 3 weeks into veg so no strong odor...yet. (growing a few autoflowers).

any advice on how to keep the lights and fan on in an emergency welcome!

Oh, and a generator is not an option...if she had money for a generator, she'd just pay the light bill! Unless a small quiet inexpensive one that can run in a ground floor apartment is available...

One could also use this information in an emergency of their own (ie bad storm and power gets cut out and not restored for awhile)....so please let's all help her and each other out!

thanks all for advice!

$21.07 200W 12v - 220v inverter - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21984

200watt inverter, runs off 12v car battery (get a solar charger if you need to charge it each day, run lights at night so batt can charge in sun during the day.)

This will take 12 volts from a car battery, and convert it to full 220v, I believe there is 110v ones there too.

And yes, the price IS $21.07 and that includes shipping to your door.

Please +rep if this post was useful.

oh and +rep for Prot3us1 :joint:

so i would think a larger scale (2 car batteries and say an 400w inverter) would allow her to maybe keep her TV on, recharge a laptop and a hot plate on too? Chef boyardee is awesome on a hot plate!

C list for a Generator? what? :-? But might as well make a payment---usually a payment will keep them at Bay she called and offered a 1/2 payment (the bill was $800!) but they want it ALL by the cut off date or else it WILL get cut off, they are a crappy company which cuts you off after 2 weeks past due...not like most companies that let you ride at least 2 months before they completely cut you off... Or the Sun is it coming up where you at? of course there is plenty sun, problem is her windows sit on the ground floor with lots of active passer-by (people walking dogs, etc) so just leaving the plants in the windowsill would not be good

They sell a 1000w version too, i think that's under $50 as well haha! crazy cheap site. If you wanted to be serious about doing it you would want a "deep cycle" battery...if a normal car battery could start your car 10 times without being recharged, a deep cycle might do it 50...but if you had secondary vehicles sitting around just charge up all the batteries and swap them out when they run flat..

The hotplate will drain the batteries really fast! Go to a camping store and pick up a portable camping stove that runs off butane gas cans..they sell them here for $15 (thats a single burner stove and a few gas refills). Gas is sooo cheap and your electricity is better used for electronics. :)

We have similar control freak utilities providers here...we switched providers and now have no probs!

ps I hope its all good...the most important thing you need when theres no power is someone else..cuz shit being alone in dead silence is depressing as hell....weed wont hurt either :P maybe some cards and booze...

First of all.. She shouldn't be growing right next to partiers, and looky loo's..

No smell "yet"... It'll happen.

After 4 weeks into flowering, the party goers will be asking for tokes.

Sorry, Sounds like trouble to me. :hump:

Good luck :)
