Potency and dosing edibles with ISO derived oil.

Thought I would try my hand at making some hard candy and it went super well, except for the unexpected 10 hour long nap I ended up taking, lol. Wow, and that was just a test, I am not much into cookies, I enjoy the occasional brownie, but that was awesome. I am totally sold.

Although I understand the differences in the production of oils from one part of the plant to another (stems leaves bud etc) AND that the potency of one strain of cannabis versus another can vary widely; I seem to be in a situation where the strain is unknown and the extraction potency is unknown. It was a very dirty ISO extraction, which I am cleaning up with a re-soak , filter, syringe filter and evap, so its still that blackish ISO but its pretty good given some TLC. The source material was shake afaik.

So I am hazarding guesses here, like maybe the ISO is about 55%, so 550mg/g so I added 10 grams and it made 100 candies so I figure 55mg per, I guess.

How potent is the typical street black oil anyway, I feel funny asking like I should know this somehow, but I just never thought about it. I know BHO and honey oils are upward of 80% plus, but just never thought to compare. I think hash is usually in that 50% range too.

Is there a better way to do this? Outside of have a sample tested I mean.

Before we purchased a gas chromatograph, we established dosage by starting with a low dose and titrating up.

Try water curing, decarbing and then iso washing next time. You will get a very clean oil free of chlorophyll that will be potent AF and ready for oral consumption.

Just for clarity, I did not make this extract, just have a lot of it and am working to clean it up as I have a proper lab setup. I am simply wondering what the typical potency is for home made ISO as I am hazarding a guess at 50% which is completely subjective and only because to me this seems about on par with the strength of mid grade hash.

This is a low grade extract made from last years outdoor harvest (if they filtered it.. it was prolly through a pantyhose lol). I think my best option right now it to clean up a sample to honey and compare before and after volumes. That should allow me to get a close % on original potency assuming any honey oil to be 80%+, working in reverse should work.

I understand what you are saying, but how do you get to a point where you can say that edible has exactly 60mg in it? (or whatever mg)

You can't without empirical measurements. You can only establish a dosage that works.

yeah except what works for me might floor my buddies, again totally subjective. I thought maybe you had a method to know a potency at a small volume and you multiplied it up for dosing.

I do 1.5g iso extract per 12 edibles
Seems to be a good number. Been using that number for 5yrs strong and always happy reviews. I make 4-8 dozen edibles every month for the past 5 yrs

I figure 60-70% so 700 mg/g. When i make gummies, 1 batch =400ml so 1.75 mg/ml. 1 bear is 1.5ml so i call it 3mg. I always round up. You can always eat more. By the time you figure out you ate too much, buckle up! Not trying to misrepresent anything by figuring high, just trying to give people an enjoyable high.

Try taking your dose with mct oil (medium chain triglycerides)or beta cylodextrine. It will ensure you fully absorb the meds and do it more quickly and require you to take fewer milligrams of thc.
Works better than coconut oil butter alcohol or anything else.
Both are available at your grocery or health food store and used as supliments.

my coconut oil is 62% MCT

Yes.
Mct oil is pure medium chain triglycerides.
Its made by spinning coconut oil in a centrufuge
The medium chains are the ones you want.
