So over the years and even more as of late, I've noticed that the political discussions on the RIU forum are often incredibly divisive and entirely fruitless. I realize that members are comprised of multiple nationalities and ideological mindsets, but the pointless bickering and personal jabs don't add any value to a conversation. Going forward I'm going to try to focus more on what I agree with fellow members on and less on areas that neither side will compromise with. Maybe the politics thread could be used to organize, inform, discuss, and plan meaningful political action that may actually have a real impact on the world around us...just maybe.

Well, it takes effort, but I think one thing we all have in common is that we are human beings alive and sharing what this melted rock covered in water flying through space... We have a common interest in maintaining and surviving under whatever conditions the universe throws our way. Right wingers aren't bad people, I used to be one, they just haven't experienced life in a way that has led them to progressive thought and I can't really blame them entirely. Some people prefer personal comfort over harsh reality, I'd rather deal with the harsh reality than comfort myself with confirmation bias.

It doesn't really matter what color I am, I've grown up in public housing on welfare and climbed my way to a better vantage point than I used to have...I know the struggle, I've been a homeless child and I got sentenced to six months in jail for a fucking weed pipe so I know all about systematic injustice. Counter to that, I was also raised in the church so I understand but no longer indentify with the the longings evangelics and right wingers. I've lived in the boonies and the projects both. But when I was inches from death something happened to me, I reached a new level of consciousness that made my perspective on life completely transform. As I faded into the dark, there was no white light, only the gradual loss of light and sensation. This made me realize that this life is our only conscious manifestation and it is our duty to exercise it in the most productive ways possible whether it is building new things, ideas, or simply passing along what has already been learned. I'm not sure why it had to go to the white thing, I know people from all color and clothe who think and speak just like me: technically every person speaks like me, fundamentally, they use letters to form sounds which represent the ideas I am trying to convey.

Nah I'm human, 84% Scottish, 6%irish, 4% German, 3% Spanish, 2% south west Asian, 1% east African lol...according to my DNA test...I guess my skin looks white some times, get pretty bronze in summer. Who cares?

I guess if you are a racist and need to know, then yes I'm what is called white...seems to be the only context in which my race might be an important factor.

I think candidates who are actual public servants like Bernie Sanders represent the compromises that can be made between both sided of the aisle. Its important for the cannabis community to go beyond online petition and protests, vetting candidates and participating in the political arena is our best shot at revolution. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that today is yesterday and tomorrow can be ours through primitive methodology, meaning ballots not bullets. We can cry foul on our elections, but its a false cry because with only 30% turnout we can't say something doesn't work that we haven't tried. We've gotta play hard, stop being pacified, and utilize every tool we have as a people.

While the concept is nice, it's darn near impossible to achieve.
People can't agree on much in the politics threads but some people do share similar outlooks and stick together.

Sometimes reading all of the posts can be both informative and entertaining. There's some smart folks here who offer different points of view but I agree, wading through shit to find a gem gets old fast.

May it be those damned whities, racists, bigots or fascists. ;)

I've found that discussing politics is a fruitless venture. I probably won't even bother to vote the next election. Hilary, Trump I don't care. If I see something between now and November 2016 that I can embrace I might vote. But, yeah. I think most people who argue politics get their education through what they see on FB. Or from gran pappy or a friend. Not by actually studying the history. Forget the issues. They all say they will do this or that. So often much of what they said they will do goes undone. I mean. Good luck, but yeah. Just not into fencing over politics. Regardless of which wing. I personally feel that if you have chosen a party to follow, Dem or Rep, you've basically removed any objective thought and have become more or less a cheerleader for that political group.

Given his record and stated policy, I'd say Bernie is a safe bet...don't let propaganda fool you, there's a reason he is loved on both sides of the aisle.

I honestly think it's too soon to worry about it. I know nothing about any of them to tell the truth. At least Trump is entertaining I guess. Hilary may be the safe play. I honestly don't know enough to compare really.

Edit. If I don't study the issues I just want vote. I mean, I've voted every year for a while now. But, I find myself disappointed with our entire political system. I guess it works. But, it really doesn't make sense and it's not an efficient system.

You're imply that an oreo who is a sleezy lawyer (like Hillary) and was nothing more than a wimpy community organizer is qualified to run America? Do you STILL not get it? I think his (failed) policies speak for themselves. Speaking of blacks, what in the hell has this black Messiah, this false prophet that hooked all you sucker bets done for the black and latino communities? A journalist needs to go to Harlem and start taking a poll. "Sir, can I have a minute of your time. Ok. What has Obama done for black people?"

Nothing, and that's why so many are turning to the conservative approach of less government, self reliance, fulfillment that comes from within, not from a handout that enslaves those who receive.

Well at least you accept the fact that economic status is more than likely the root of the social problem.

So why not just break the cycle by setting economic and educational thresholds as a criteria for reproduction?

For instance all 6th graders are given a reversible sterilization. When they meet educational and monetary standards the process could be reversed.

The procedure will be cost effective and the time constant for social correction will be a helluva lot shorter and than the current process.

Stop this fucking around shit and get to the heart of the problem.

Bernie Confuses the Fox news Watchers
Fox has spent the last 8 years portraying a socialist as a secret muslim black man bent on destroying America, And Jews in Israel as gods anointed people whose biggest enemy is the said Socialist in the white house.

Bernie is a self described socialist and a jew

Unfortunately the image people get when they think socialist is a stark contrast from Sanders' positions...more of a social democrat, but technically he's an independent who caucuses with both parties who has an excellent record on veterans affairs and serving the voters interest rather than corporations. I usually don't endorse candidates but I strongly recommend people take a look and actually engage next time around. Fuck this passive aggressive speculative auto pilot shit, time to saddle up and ride.

Register to vote, register others to vote, stop letting 60 yr old retirees and party loyalist determine the course of our nation...people all over the world are attempting to mobilize, I suggest Americans do the same before we're all slaves to the state or living like it's the dark ages again.
