Could anyone help me with any strain that helps anxiety. I had to stop smoking weed for a while because it started to give me major anxiety. I have been smoking for 15 years so I'm not sure what happen, lol.

Thanks... I typically smoke Indica cause thats what we mostly got in B.C.

anxiety is from you worrying about something subcontiously and not knowing about it i have had that and i think theres a thread that tells about different types of strains and what they do just search these forums for them

self medicating anxiety with cannabis is like adding fuel to a fire.
see you doctor if you have anxiety as self medicating is not good or healthy and certainly not the answer.

I've been self-medicating for over 30+ but you've convinced me, I'll be better off addicted to prescription medication

When using marijuana as a medication, it's a good idea to try other medications specifically designed for that particular symptom as well so that you get a true picture of what works.

But try and stay away from the benzodiazepams (xanax, ativan, klonopin)...they work immediately but are a bridge to nowhere (i.e. you develop tolerance and need more, repeat, repeat, repeat,...until eventually you hit a maximum dose where you can't take anymore and you're still stuck with anxiety...and now a nice unhealthy addiction to benzodiazepams). They're really similar to using alcohol for anxiety.

With certain strains of pot you may feel less anxious WHILE you're stoned. But there is a "comedown" effect that occurs in the brain when your not stoned that involves a heightening of brain activity that often will manifest itself as anxiety, frustration, racing thoughts, etc. You may have noticed this when you've tried quitting :leaf: in the past (irritable, bored, insomnia, etc.)

Good luck.

if this started recently, has it been only a few kinds of bag weed that seem to have had bad effects?
indica's are actually notorious for triggering anxiety when they are under ripe, i.e. lot's of clear trichomes
i've dealt with some anxiety issues myself, learned you have no idea what some bag weed may do
you may want to consider some stealth growing if possible, some strains do have good rep for lowering anxiety, but the big thing is you can control your finished product

cannabis usage wont solve anxiety problems in any way.
yes it might chill you out but its just adding fuel to the fire.

i think this is true of medications in general for anxiety, they can't cure, but they may help, and they may hurt
it comes down what seems to help you, some here seem to provide good accounts of anxiety being helped with MM
but i'd agree some do not find MM good for anxiety

dude, i am in my 50s, having smoked pot for 40 years. therefore, i know of what i speak.

pot will not help with anxiety. in fact, it will make you more anxious. if you must smoke, then smoke less. do not get stoned, instead, get buzzed. my good buddy stopped because pot made him worry about all the shit in his life and the world. then i told him to just smoke a hit or two. i told him NOT to buy superweed. instead, get basic $200 per oz. weed. then just take a toke or two and enjoy.

its like drinking alcohol. you wouldn't drink 10 shots of tequila in one sitting. instead, you have a couple of drinks to relax and enjoy. its called drinking responsibly. do it at home. the same is true with pot. smoke responsibly. do it in moderation at home. the days of getting fucking wasted are over.

i too am in my 50's, and have smoked the same length of time(with large gaps)
and i have found some strains to be 'anxiety friendly', this has been my experience, also found plenty that were not good for anxiety
now i can't agree more with the moderation message, that's more of an appropriate dosing issue, but that is not particular to weed, many medications have poor effects if used excessively

ive been a smoker for over 10 years now and my wife believes my anxiety is brought on and/or worsened by smoking. i disagree, because i know there are other sources and getting high has only helped me thru it all.
that said, i have also been prescribed a few kinds of anti-depressants (at different times, not all together!) as well as Xanax and Valium, the valium actually to help with the withdrawal from the Xanax (it worked like a charm)
interestingly enough, Xanax acts on the gabba receptors in the brain, the same which are activated by drinking alcohol. oh yea, and valium is an alcohol withdrawal drug, too.
Xanax helped me incredibly but after being off of it for about a year the anxiety returned. seeing the shrink again, he refused to put me back on it because he said the xanax was just like a "band aid" and simply doesnt resolve the issue... and i believe this to have much truth... so instead im on the anti-depressants again (they seem to help with anxiety as well, even without a diagnosis of depression. they may work as well for PTSD which i have a bit of, too.)

with all this, smoking marijuana has been, and always will be the best treatment. for me.
i pray that the eyes of all those still blind to the wonders of the cannabis plant be opened to the true wonders of the greatest plant on earth.
