Hey all, for my next grow Ill be using an HPS. So i currently have a 150watt MH that i use to use for fishtank. So I was thinking about cutting the pendent of the MH since its a DE(Double ended) bulb socket. And then wire it up to a mogul base and fire it up with a 150watt hps light for at least 2 plants. Would it be possible? And I'll be using PC for supplements. Thx for the help.

The only type of mogul I know of is the phone but *I believe* you can put an HPS bulb of the same wattage into an MH ballast. That seems to be what you're doing. I say go for it. Check your voltages though anyways, make sure your mogul/ballast can support the wattage demands of your lights.

Thx, im more confident now. Wattage are the same. Its also a mogul ceremic high temp socket so it should be fine. I'll do a DIY when I flower my plants. :)

You will have to get a bulb that has an igniter in it. Thats what fires the bulb in a hps.

Providing this is a normal MH ballast. You should be able to go to your grow store a buy an igniter and wire it in to the ballast. This would be the correct, and cheaper way of doing it. Bulbs with built in igniters don't work so well, are expensive, and have a short life.

also, ballasts for MH and ballasts for HPS ARE!! differnt. I was looking at switching my HPS over to a MH and upon heavy research discovered that, yes you can do it, but the ballasts do run at differnt volts.

I think the ballast might have one, as there was a clicking noise when my bulb didnt fire up. But ill check and find out.

NOPE! if its a MH it does not have an igniter. When you make your HPS run MH you open up the box and take the igniter out of the circut. You should be able to buy one though.
