possible for 600w in a 1000w

and is it also possible to use a mh bulb in a hps system if its the same size wattage bulb as the system?

Most all digital ballasts will run both MH and HPS and some coil HPS also run MH but you should really check the manufacturer. You cannot run a 600w bulb in a 1000w ballast. You can run a 1000w bulb in a 600w ballast (not very efficiently), but the other way around is pretty dangerous.

so can u run a 600w hps bulb in a 400w hps system?
and is possible how? i figure the ballast wouldnt have enought wattage to run more than it is no?

Thanks for the advice. Found myself in the same situation, so I'm now running a 1000w el-cheapo HPS on a 600w digital switchable dimmable ballast at 100%, and it works fine. Nothings gotten hot or anything, and it looks about as bright as when I was running a 600w bulb. I'm sure it will not last at this rate, and is certainly not the absolute best for my girls, but a fine temporary solution.
