Pollen in clouds

Hi all
Further first time I've pollinated some flowers to produce my own seed, only the bottom third of the bod has been treated with pollen, not knowing what to expect, the buds just kept growing and growing and looking good, are they ok to smoke the ones that haven't been pollinated

yes, you may find some random seeds in the bud, but theres no reason to not smoke them, unless youve treared the plant with chemicals.
if all you did was take pollen from an un treated male plant and polinated a female, go for it, but if you treated the pollen with silver thiosulphate or colloidial silver, then no. although im not 100% sure about the coloidial silver. wait for another grower to chime in

You aren't treating pollen, you're suppressing female hormones.

The pollinated buds or the plants you sprayed with the silver solutions?
The pollen was produced by using STS
That plant was then disregarded and the pollen saved, a month later I applied the pollen to a completely different plant, only the bottom third of quite large buds now, were treated with pollen nothing but pollen, I only left about 4 buds on the plant to be treated with pollen,
You hear of people getting a few seeds in their buds all the time, I just assumed it would be ok to smoke but wanting to check with experience growers

I don't see any issue with that personally.

You should not smoke buds sprayed with STS or CS but the buds pollinated with the pollen from the treated plants is perfectly fine to smoke or eat. All the pot we bought back in the day was full of seeds so we just got rid of the seeds and smoked what was left. Buy a brick of pot and by the time you removed all the stems and seeds you had about half the weight left over.

That old Mexican brick weed was good sativa and if grown and cured properly was much better pot than what came in the bricks.

Because when I pollinated the flower was only about a third of the size it is now, and what I read said you only need to do it about week 3 or 4 of flower and stop, but the bud has just kept growing and growing

I'm getting the distinct feeling that your pollen wasn't viable. At 5 weeks after dusting there should be calyxes already splitting with near ripe seeds and they would be very easy to see.

That would explain why that bud just kept growing like nothing happened.

When I'm just after a few dozen seeds I'll put a garbage bag over the whole plant leaving just one branch exposed then take that plant upstairs to the shop and dust that branch. Then the next day I'll spray everything down, including the floor around the pot for 3ft and the branch that was sprayed, with lots of water to deactivate the stray pollen before removing the bag and returning the plant to the flowering room. Don't want pollen on the other girls.

Hope I'm wrong for your sake but if you can't find ripe or near ripe seeds by now then your pollen was a dud.

Yes I'm starting to think that myself, this was my first attempt at the whole program and looking back I used the pollen very fresh I didn't leave it sit around for a few days to dry out
Fresh pollen works fine. That's how it works in nature the best. Supposedly seeds need a couple weeks of air drying before planting but I stuck 10 fresh seeds into a small pot of soil long ago and all 10 came up.

If I'm saving pollen for later use I'll put it in a vial then put the uncapped vial in a jar with colour changing drying crystals to desiccate them before sealing up the vial and storing in that jar of crystals in the fridge. I have some that's over 10 years old stored that way and will eventually test some on a girl to see if it still works.

These are seeds but the pollen gets stored the same way.

Enough pollen in there to make a million seeds! :)

So are you suggesting that after I pollinate when the flower is round about 3 to 4 weeks old with lots of little right hairs it shouldn't really grow any bigger and develop more white hairs after that it I'm really don't know much about this at all

Basically that's the deal. I've been pollen chucking for 20 years and once you dust a bud new flowers will still pop up but the bud definitely looks different than unpollinated ones. And at 5 weeks after the pollinated flowers will be all swollen up with some splitting open by the seed inside. Even if the pollen is non-viable the hairs will still react as they do when good pollen is used but no seed or a tiny little seed will form but will not mature. I think even untouched calyxes will form that tiny seed inside without pollen. I'll have to look.

If the rest of your plant is ready for harvest but seeds aren't ripe yet you can crop all the other stuff just leaving the buds on any branches they are on to finish up.

I won't give up almost impossible getting seeds into my country
Is it possible to give too much STS to the plant you are trying to reverse
Some people have said they treat once before flip and every 4 to 5 days until flower
Others say twice before flip and every 2 to 3 days until balls appear ?
