Police came to door, should be worried?

Honestly my gut tells me I'm ok that if they DID smell weed they probably just think I was smoking. I dont think they're going to get a warrant and chase after me just because they think I'm smoking. ONLY if they think I'm growing/selling I would think.

And I don't sell to people.

they wouldn't have needed a warrant........Probable Cause. they don't wanna be bothered. be aware of your states laws, including how many plants is safe to get caught with.

lol i found the info on how man plants in tx... texas has pretty asinine laws for public conduct as it is....

growing includes a small plant.... yes, it's considered a felony, and liniency falls with the DA and judge.... but texas has a tax stamp act, which means they'll charge you with tax-evasion if you're caught too....

No, it's called probable cause because the lights are used for growing pot. They'll bring a dog into the house and when (not if!) he reacts, your busted. It's like a clean pot pipe- no pot but still used for illegal purposes. Rememeber, it can just be resin on a door handle or a lighter, a seed in the carpet, etc.......

If you were in a different state, my recommendations would have been different but Texas is just plain ol' FUCKED UP!!!!!

Although the smell of Marijuana gives the officer probable cause that doesn't force the officer to act. Just because they didn't take you at the moment doesn't mean they are ignoring you. The best thing you can do is see a local, good, criminal defense attorney.

texas is a funny state. so is mine. that may change soon. i have my fingers crossed. good luck, man. keep cool.

Smell can possibly start or further an investigation although what makes a cop enough of an expert in smells to even further an investigation to which it would stand up in court? One person's opinion on a smell is hardly credible evidence. Like you said, they were there on an unrelated matter and even if the policeman did smell and recognize the smell they probably didn't want the 4 extra hours of paperwork to bust some pothead(s) with possibly having only a minor amount of weed and was fortunately already busy with other problems.
Not only that but if the officer had smelled something and wanted to pursue it, you most likely would have seen other officers snooping around in a short while or my favourite, the good-looking girl with a broken down car in front of your house knocking on your door to use a phone two hours later trick to get intel on ya. If neither of those happened, then I wouldn't sweat it too much.

I still would err on the side of caution though and keep 'normal' for the next while. Like others said above, keep it cool and low key for a bit.

even in your best case scenario the cop smelled weed and did not think anything of it other than the fact that he now probably has your house pegged as a drug house. that would be more than enough attention for me to clean up everything and move. the possibility that you are on the cops radar is too much of a risk for me to continue growing in such a situation. think about what you have been able to get away with so far. dont get greedy. there are other ways to make money and get weed. growing is not going anywhere and you can always go back to it unless your in prison. is one more harvest of 8 ounces really worth losing everything? is the risk worth the reward? thats for you and your lawyer to decide. i would move or stop growing.

Yeah man put that someplace else for a while . Be safe Tx will fuck you for that . You can always grow legal elsewhere as long as your free now dont risk it .

I disagree. Not all cops think the same even when it comes to law in Texas or elsewhere.
I strongly believe that the cops would have not said anything to you
if they were going to watch and bust you later. They do NOT warn or suggest to someone then bust them
later on unless the suggestion was not fixed such as not closing the garage door etc...
I would anyone bet big time that you are ok in this matter no doubt whatsoever.

Sheriff showed up at my door the other day and it made me feel nice...they were looking for someone else...but the fact that when I opened my door I didn't get arrested made me feel safer...I notice that it reeks if we open to door to where the tents are, but as long as that door is closed the rest of the house doesn't smell like pot, except every once in awhile when the heat or air first kicks on...Then again I am used to the smell and like it so I am not sure I would notice if our smelled like a weed farm...I do regular sniff checks around the windows and doors and haven't really noticed a smell outside, unless I stick my nose right up on the glass of one of the windows to the tent room...So I thought I was doing alright..I guess it turns out the smell isn't too bad...

was there something really going on next door.. or did they just drive up and stop at ur house.. ?? could of just been looking out for u l.. is there anything that would clue them to growing in the garage at all..?? if sooo then they mite have a clue.. but u should of asked wat was going on ..

I think you are fine. If he smelled something, that typically constitutes probable cause in most circumstances.

If you were trimming, they HAD to smell it. I have a 75 yd driveway, and when trimming it reeks at my mailbox. I may as well be doing it on the front porch!!!

Ask Pat the Stoner what he would do. Texas sounds like a shitty place to get caught with weed.

$9000.00 for a lawyer on some bs raggedy ass plant charge . Your lights nutes ph meters and basically anything used to cultivate , manufacture or produce becomes paraphanalia . Plus they will smash break and take anything you have that they want including all guns . If that sounds worth it then fuck it keep going . Plus if convicted all court costs and $100.00 per month for probation - plus drug test costs and rehab costs - you will have to go to rehab if offered probation . Does that sound like fun ? You in Texas now boy the LAW aint no joke .

Also any day care center , or church within 1000 feet of grow makes it a felony (not just a school) because it will be in a drug free zone . It seems also that Tx having any legal mmj will not happen in my life time or yours . Get rid of that op asap and kick back . My uncle got raided and they found nothing , not even a seed . It happened weeks after a cop writing a ticket smelled weed they were smoking on the back porch . He keeps nothing at home except 2 joints . He is 67 years old and they smashed in his doors like swat . Pulled his whole family out of bed and destroyed his whole house searching for weed . Broke holes in the walls . These are nice senior citizens who dont deal or anything , they play cards and horseshoes have other retired persons over several times a week , they arent open ass out there at all . Be in a legal state with that , the risks are not worth it . Just my opinion , do what you want .
