Hi guys,
I have a question I'm sure someone out there will know.. I had a discussion with a mate today and he told me that 2 newer digital ballasts 600w lights would draw the same amount as a 1000w older magnetic. Ballast light.. Can anyone shed any light if this is roughly true?? I know the. We digitals are more efficient, because if this is the case I would grab 2 digi 600w over one 1000 magnetic.. I know some of you probably think I'm being cheap but that's not the case, we're I live elec bills are outrageous! So any help counts! Plus from what I've read 600w have best efficiency with growing.. Thanks would love to hear your thoughts guys.. Keep up the good work

That could very well be true. Newer electronics are more energy efficient than the old stuff. How much more efficient? I have no idea.
If you can get the specs on the lights, compare the input power requirements.

Thanks mate.. I don't have much info on the older magnetic ballast I got.. But I want to run the lumatek digital which wouldn't be hard to get specs for... I thought I did read somewhere they use a bit less power , just did t know if anyone had personal experience.. Thanks for the reply

600w is the most efficient lumen:watt ratio.

Watts = amps x volts.
Both your digital and magnetic ballasts should have these ratings on them. Just multiply the amps and volts to get the power draw.

I dont think that 2 600s will be less than single 1000 though. But you will get better coverage!

Ide rather run 2 600 hps vs 1 1000 anyany day exept for growing trees with a long veg time 6-12 weeks
2 600w would be great for a 4x8 area

You should decide which light will work best in your space. I would take a 1k for a 5 x 5 space over 2 600's but then the 600's would light a typical rectangular shaped closet much better.

The dgitals are more effecient, meaning more of the AC energy is converted to light istead of heat. so a digital will draw the same power as a core and coil but will produce a bit more light. So 2 x 600 will use more than 1-1k. Not enough to influence the design IMHO.
