Hello,

I need help from some fellow growers. I have some kind of really small bug in my soil. I dont know what it is or if its harming my plants. Though my plants arnt looking "amazing" here latly.

The bugs are small white things. The live in the soil and come out run around when I blow on the soil. They are REALLY little and are white. They dont have wings and arnt like worms but kinda like a very small beetle or something, they even apear to have many legs, not sure on that one i just think this based on the way thy move.

They look almost exactly like this.

I have seen some black gnats and small flys in the closet but no white ones or any other critter. Not many black gnats or flys, the ones I see i kill. I have a humidafier in the room and Im using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and have them under four 24in grow CFl's. and one 5in grow bulb. The lights are about 2in from the plants and about 10 from the soil.

Also my plants lower leaves have been starting to kinda dry and shrivel and kinds twist at the edges but they are still very green.
Here are some pictures.

Based on all that information what do you think these bugs are. Are they what is harming my plants? What can I do to get rid of them?

Here is my grow journal on my two plants if it helps.

sounds like dreaded root aphids. do they have two little "spikes" protruding from their asses? thats how you tell for sure

but if you have flyers and crawlers you are probably infested already.
with plants that young i would just start over. get some MET 52 and mix it into your soil 2 wks befor planting in.
lots of bagged soil comes with bugs these days.

or go chemy and use bayer tree and shrub, avid, specrtraside.

it can get expensive dealing with these things. and can take weeks-months to get rid of if you dont tear down and start over clean.
good luck.

ps dont buy clones. they almost always have bugs.

What Oldschool says sounds like most likey scenario to me as well. Root aphids are often confused with gnats. Some fly, some don't. Never had to deal with these, but have heard bad things, definitely go big or go home and knock em down with something strong.

If you can't knock em out and can confirm the issue is definitely root aphids, and was early in growth where you are, I would cut down, dip the girls in a pesticide, and reroot them. Definitly don't go so drastic unless you confirm your problem, and you can't get rid of them.

If I was to get clones from even my best friend, I would dip them roots and all, quarantine, then dip again in 10 days before introducing them to my room.

Well i got them but also got rid of them very easy. and havent seen them or anything else. But i have read in a few places that if spring tailes are all you have they arnt really a problem for a mature plant but may possibly harm a seedling.
