Please educate me on passive intake

After reading these replies I'm pretty sure I've got my shit set up wrong...but it's working :X

Got 6" duct coming out of the top of the tent going to the fan which is blowing directly into my carbon filter outside of the tent...and a passive intake at the bottom of the tent, opposite side of the exhaust. Got some nice negative pressure, and my temps are in order, but maybe the fan is being overworked for no reason...

Is it really wrong if it works? I don't think so! ;-)

Hey it can't be worse than my setup. 3 tents in one room daisy chained with ducts and computer fans, so the veg tent is the intake, then the air has to go through 2 90 degree bends then through 2 600W HPS tents, where the last tent has the most powerful fan and a duct with 3 90 degree bends going outside, none of them insulated. And I'm about to run a duct from 2 600w tents in another room at the front of the house which will be 10-15m long into the veg tent! I can get away with this in winter and the negative ion generator I have deal with the smell lol.

Well at least it's as quiet as a computer... except for my fucking air pump -_-

not wrong mate plenty of people put the carbon filter on the outlet side of the ducting to save space in the tent
only slight downside is the air is in contact with the filter for less time also the smelly air is sucked through the fan
before it hits the filter, which could in a big garden lead to smell leaks, but you can seal up the fan box etc to stop any smell coming out of the fan box
i have never tried it that way myself if it works and no smell leaks out , its all good

I think I may try insulated ducting. Everyone says you have to make a larger exhaust hole. I was wondering, can you just cut some of the insulation off to fit the 6" duct in the hole, or should I just use a bigger hole?

lol That's okay, at least what you're talking about pertains to the subject. So I learned something from it ^_^

Also, idk why I can't like things, maybe it's because I'm on safari, that is not an option for newbies, or it just isn't available right now. But I love to like things, and I wish I could like your all's stuff haha.
Not sure what the number is but you have to be on I think for at least 48 hours and have to achieve a certain number of likes yourself...before you can like. I give you a bump.

my filter box can work just on passive intake ......... if u have a fan in there now and it sucking hard making the little 6 inch spin u are doing damage to the 6 inch

the only 2 reason reason to add more air once u get to a good point is if u are adding Co2 or Heat issuses

the varible speed controller u use to get near the same speed as the smaller unit then just increase it a slight bit to keep the neg pressure this will get u the longest possible life out of both fans

the reason u can do that is the PVC it is keeping the CFMs in the upper range .......if u used normal ducting it would slow it..........i personally use a cross air system

here is mine
4x4 veggie as a fliter box .......210cfm rough guess running poss preasure on this one the hot air has 2 paths one that goes into my flowering tent and a 2nd one that dump out infront of the AC intake vent

the 5x5 glowering tent has a filter box and a vent coming from the veggie tent ......it is getting extracted by a 6 inch 400 cfm fan ..........it runs neg pressure................currentlly i do not have the carbon filter on when it is the thing needs to be att full power and i am just below equal pressure

currently my system the veggie tent air is dumped/exchanged once every 30 secs and the flowering tent some where once every 15/17 secs
buckets by the intake are mash buckets making 2 more gallons of shine..............the bucket on the table is my water bucket with the airstone
Inquiring minds wanna know..How many Total watts are you drawing including the ac? I'd love an ac but I feel like the energy consumption outweighs the stress on plants ultimately.

In your photo below...what is that little container connected to the top? nutes?

the answer is it is a Airlock to keep the Mash in none oxygen state so the yeast uses the sugar to make drink instead of coping itself

that bucket u see is a mash buck brewing me 21% rum base (in the end i get 2 gallons of 140% for 30 bucks) ..............the byproduct of sugar being converted to drink is Co2..........so when i make some i set the buckets infront of the power intakes it is sucked in controlling the smell along with using Co2 to boost the grow rate of my plants .............i get about 5 /6 days of solid Co2

my engery use is fairly high
2 300w LED
1 1000w HID..............this is on it own breaker
3 6 inch boosters
2 4inch boosters
1 air pump
1 10 inch fan
1 12 inch box fan (this is mounted in the door itself sucking in cool air from the lower part of the hall)
1 6000 btu window shaker

i have it on 2 breakers 15 amps the 1000w is only one on the 2nd breaker rest is on the rooms............bill increased about 90 bucks a month

note that is all the gear that runs at once in the 4 tent system in that room ...........one of the 4 inch boosters is taped to wall blowing on the 1000w ballast )

@justugh Last of many questions, is your brew a flush brew or nutrients in general?
my grow system is a mix of several lines and a blend of supersoil it has taken a year of different exps on auto plants to learn what i know

my drink ..............it is a rum base so that is dark brown sugar with some honey and yes i use some gypsm and yeast nutr (but that is food grade u can pick them up from your local beer brewing store.....infact alot of the items can be used for distiling )

Great setup! Is the bill more than $200/mo ...I'd be curious to see actual power consumption by meter...You could be using lower kw/h than you think you are. Then again. you get the electric bill. Have you seen the cree build chats?

not sure on the bill ............this is split lvl home on a yearly plan ...........currently only 2 ppl live here father and myself the rest are not here so the power use looks as if 4/5 ppl live here

when i was paying attention to it at the high of the power use i was near 5 kw a hour but that was a jerry rigged mess of part to get results 2 600w in a 4x4 tent to get me that 140k lumens

i know running my stil (build one using a hot water heating element so can heat off power anywhere ) it cost me 2.35 to run my 1500w stil and water pump for cooling for 10 hours

i just leave 300 bucks each month by the coffee maker to cover the power bill i have never heard a word of complaint it was not enough to cover the bill ...............i need to make 1 oz of weed or 4 gallons of shine to make that

u can thanks someone else for this ...............if u are in a place that has a baseboard heating that is on it own breaker............u can open the pannel at one of the end and hook in a socket.............but do it correctly so do not start fires or blow out gear ...........u can tie the AC into that and winter time unplug and use heater ......u will need a switch on the heater to keep the power going to the elements but allow the power to go to the socket (hire a eletrical person if u are iffy)

and as for your end point .............i would put some kind of vent on it so the air is deflected and spread out as it exits and not just a jet stream of air
I've been thinking of what to do with the exhaust. First I thought to put a screen up there in case anything tried to come through. But idk if I could rig something easily removable.
What kind of vent do you think would be good? The problem I'm seeing with a lot of the vents is, I can't actually get up into the attic. My dad cut a hole to look up there to ensure the exhaust wouldn't cause mold. It's just a small space that is ventilated by a whirly thing on the roof, and a bathroom vent exhaust also pulls air from the attic to outside.

The best I could think of was connecting a collar start to the ceiling, then at the other end wrap a screen that can be tightened along with the ducting by a screw clamp. It doesn't do anything for the stream of air.

there are 3 natural hiding spots in every house for venting
1 the chimme
2 the dryer vent
3 the sewer gas/septic tank vent

if u can i would tie it into the sewer gas vent .................its venting point is high like the chimme (every 20 feet u increase the wind speed by 10 ......so if the ground the windspeed is 6 20 feet higher it is 16 .............this will well make the smell not noticable since it is high up it is carried offed .........and it mixes with the sewer gas when it exits

just access the pipe and put a Wye split just make sure u turn the junction upside down so the air is forced up the pipe .....it will cuase a vacuum effect lower down and pull the gasses up and out faster ...................put a backflow dampner on the ducting to be safe (when u shut the fan off u do not want gas buildng up in area it is possible
