Plants Looking Good! Advice/Comments please! ;~)

Yo - whut up peoples.

This is my first grow and well, things are looking great! I have a bit of a gnat problem but i got some predatory nematodes so hopefully they will devour the larva (hopefully not my brain either because i accidentally splashed them in my eyes). I am looking for some good advice from experienced growers to finish the grow. Your wisdom will be appreciated!!!!!!!!

Strain: white widow
Flowering cycle: 3 weeks 4 days
Medium: potting soil
Light: 400W HPS (MH for veg)
Fert: Earth Juice.

I read they will be ready after flowering 8-9 weeks when the trichromes turn a milky color, at which point they are supposed to be mature and have the highest THC content. But - when i look at them under a 60x scope, they are already milky color, lol. so any advice???

they look good but you have a little while to go. the trichomes should go from milky to amber. you want to wait until some are amber - the longer you wait the stonier the high.

Thanks for the props! Ok, so - it is alright for the trichromes to turn amber? i though that meant you have missed the hight potency window?

also - How do you know when to stop feeding? is it good to simply discontinue feeding at 6 weeks? Does anyone have experience feeding the plants molasses or sugar to fatten up buds?

Definately make sure you understand what you are seeing. Try one of those lighted 100x scopes from radio shack or 420gear. Cut a lil small piece off your plant (nice and close in on the bud), place it on the table and use the scope. You will be amazed and totally sure of color. Your girls barely look 1/2 way done

ideally you should harvest when about 20-50% of the trichomes are amber, depending on how you like your smoke...the longer you wait it becomes more of like a couchlock body high ass opposed to an energetic sorta head high. Its when the trichomes start turning amber that the plant has peaked in thc production and thc is now degrading into CBD...or something like that....personally I harverst when about 20% of the trichs are amber

No no no, i'm not saying they are done... :dunce: I'm asking advice on how to treat them the next 4-5 weeks so that i yeild the best and biggest buds. I was just confused about the trichrome color. My scope is exactly that actually - lighted 60-100x. I didnt cut a peice off my plant but i will next time because by the time i found what i was looking for, the end of my scope was sticky... :shock:

look for a thread called "amber alert" in the subcools organics its the subsection of organics and will explain in detail with high resolution pics of when to havest based on thricome color and the resulting high that accompanies

feeding your plant while in flower? Its a question I see alot of people ask. I've tried plenty of experiments with this throughout all the growing seasons I have experienced (20 years now). I have to tell you this any type of nutrient you give your plant IS detectable when you smoke! Some will try to use all kind of "methods" to try and remove the neuts for a smooth smoke. Only one I have tried in 20 years does work and I have held true to it since I discovered it 5 years ago.

Only feed your plants nutrients during vegitative state! At the first sign of "the change" flowering, discontinue use of any nutrients. The plant naturaly stops use of any nutrient that it may find inthe soil during flower so any that it may absorb are only stored in the plant material rather than the plant using them for growth. Example: My first three years of growing I used Fish emultion to give my plants ample nutrients and this works excelent during veg. state the plants get big and beautifull:weed:. However I was feeding them during flower too. And at harvest my friends all told me the budd tasted quite fishy. And when I tried it they were right it tasted like a fish hatchery smells!:wall:

Remember the flavor of the budd isn't just the type of plant you grow. It's also about how the grower treats the plant during its' life cycle. I hope my small story and advice helps you along throughout your gardening years.

So you're saying all of us who religiously feed bloom nutes and supplements, not to mention all the companies that rake in millions on the sale of those nutes, are doing it all wrong? And what about hydro growers? They should just fill their reservoirs with plain water for the 8+ weeks of flowering? Your post makes sense, somewhat. But most people do a 'flush' just prior to harvesting to help leach the chemical taste. But I fail to understand how soil can continue to supply all the required nutrients needed for flowering if you stop feeding after veg.

I can see where all the nute companys might have your mind clouded with their advertisements. However marijuana is clasified as a "weed", weeds in general dont receive any nutes except for what they can extract from soil naturaly, and live off minimal water supply. Those who do use hydro obviously do have to continue with their nutes, but if you ask around you'll find the seasoned hydro grower minimizes there nutes during flower. As for "flushing", this does work but only to a certain degree. You see when a plant is in flower many of the nutes you were/are feeding the plant is no longer using those nutes are stored within the plant ( plants dont have exit holes like humans). Flushing only removes potential nutes that would be absorbed through the roots if they aren't removed. Flushing however doesn't remove any nutes that the plant has allready absorbed and stored within its' stalk, branches, leaves and flowers.
