So do y’all use dryback during the water only period at the end of flower?
Because if your not using dryback and your watering till runoff when the pots are already 90% saturated, I don’t see any difference between that and “flushing”.
And if your using half strength nutrients while doing this process than I’d say your still flushing, just with half strength nutrients.
I’ve never personally had good luck with this and the buds always ended up with a washed out taste but if y’all have good luck with this than keep on flushing.

From what I understand it’s not necessary the amount of water or nutrient solution causing the “washed out” taste, it could be the lack of aeration at the root zone when the entire root zone in the coco is submerged in a 90% saturated medium. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in DWC, isn’t at least 10% of the root zone usually exposed to the open air?You think that has a washed out taste, imagine what DWC must taste like…

The entirety of the rootzone in coco has sufficient oxygen even when completely saturated. If you had a washed out taste when feeding daily in coco to runoff the issue was unrelated to the feeding. More than likely a drying issue.

It was actually a 50/50 pro mix / perlite I was using when I was drenching the medium without dryback.
Not the brand of coco I’m using. It’s milled like a fine sawdust and gets almost just as soggy as promix.

What brand of coco? My Canna Coco Professional plus is pretty fine and it doesn't have issues. Maybe stop using cheap coco?

I don’t care about yield only taste.
I don’t consider it starving the plants in a bad way that would effect taste unless I’m feeding them so little that the foliage yellows off enough so that the buds themselves start to yellow off before they’re what I consider ripe.
Believe me I try not to feed the plants little enough that the buds are brown at harvest.. but there’s a fine line.

I wasn’t comparing coco to promix when I referenced the “drenched medium” example. I was mostly trying to illustrate how vague the term “flushing” is.
It’s not cheap coco in fact it’s incredibly expensive. They say it’s triple washed and sterile, buffered the whole 9 yards. The brand themselves says how great the aeration is and how you should water till runoff. In my cold ambient temps and high humidity I’ve chosen to use a different approach. I actually like the results I’m getting with this brand, the taste seems cleaner than peat. I’m also going to try the canna brand, the hydro store said it had ample aeration. Interestingly the coco loco from fox farm seemed to have way more aeration than this brand, even though it contained worm castings and way less perlite.
