Plant Protection?

I plan on growing about 15 lowryders out in my woods in seperate pots. There going to have to be put out at a very young age (1-2 weeks) to fend for themselves and im worried. How can i protect them from the elements or should i even worry? Assuming there isnt a huge storm that would flood them should they be ok if taken care of properly. Do people put cages or screens over there pots? I plan on having about 5 plots of three plants. Maybe 5 big pots with 3 lowryders per pot. Thanks in advance.

i would not grow 3 plants per pot as their roots are goign to tangle and their going to get root bound alot faster. use one pot per plant and start off with smaller ones like cups and just make the pots bigger and bigger every time the plant grows. as for protection i would use gallon milk jugs or 2 liter bottles just put the top in the dirt and have the plant growing on the inside this way its safe from insects adn some animals while its small.

I use chicken wire, rolled into a circle and about 12'' high and fold in the top of cage (close to plant) to keep out critters. how often will you check on them?

I can check them twice a week if I need to. Does anyone else use 2L bottles over top of their plants? Will enough water and sunlight get in? What about a regular window screen box- would that work? thanks.

enough sunlight gets through and water if u use the bottles its not like water has to hit the plant just needs to hit the dirt in the pot so the roots can absorb it. i use the chicken wire method too when their too big for the bottles. do u live by any deer? those are the biggest problem for me

do you ever worry about the plants becoming too hot and possibly wilting under the bottle?

yea at first but it normally dosent happen unless its a 90+ day and if it is that hot just take the bottle off and pray nothing eats them lol idk

this time of year jugs over your plants would be a idea beacause of the weather conditions assuming you live in the northern hemisphere. i would start with the plastic dome then as the weather gets better and the plants get bigger, i would switch off to the cages. works for me. and as long as your plants are not baking in the sun the domes will work fine. gives the plants a little humidity to work with..

does anyone know any sure fire ways to prevent bugs and deer? i live in northern jersey any help would be amazing

for bugs, i use neem oil. works great. don't got deer running around here but my friend who lives in an area surrounded by deer uses perdatory urine. garlic supposed to work also.

planting chilipeppers work also. hope that helps

what about small critters like grasshoppers, worms ect...

not sure about that...though grasshoppers could be benficial insects?could be wrong though. Neem oil works for the little insects and stuff though...
