Plant damage

FUCKING GRASSHOPPERS!

I have figured out now that it was two critters working in tandem. A punk ass grasshopper was chewing away the sweet sweet hard barky shell and then some kind of a shitworm was entering through the incision and eating his way up the stalk.

I found a grasshopper with all four legs wrapped around the stalk today, just a chewing away. Matched the other scars exactly. Now all I need is an organic way to keep grasshoppers away and I'm golden. It was a big fucker too! Gonna go do some r-search thanks guys!

post a pic of the worm if your able.

I've not actually seen the worm...but from the damage that was done I know that has to be what is happening.

i never saw my worm until i cut it out of the stem...from what i understand when they're in they stay in i guess and if they do move to a bigger plant its only at night i guess...The thing I would like to know is once you notice a part of the plant sagging if you can slice parallel down the stem, remove the worm and will the branch come back to life? I fear if these are not removed they can destroy and entire plant....

I only had one branch that got this bore worm or whatever in it. I sliced the stalk like you're talking about but he wasn't in it. I took down that whole branch and there aren't any other entry holes so it isn't in my plant now.

had to cut open the stalks and take them out. All the stems I cut I just wrapped together with garden tape and they were good.

EDIT: The stalks got all fat and distorted from the bastards. So they are easy to spot.
I have these exact worms; I've been noticing these "shit covered holes" seriously all over my plants but they are so small and my plants look great and are not showing any signs of stress or anything because of them. I've just kinda watched them closely for awhile until the other day i noticed a droopy leaf and checked it to find that there was a very tiny worm boring his way up the leaf stem. Now today I found something similar to your picture...just shit all over in the bud or in my case just the start of new growth/flower.... I guess I've come to the conclusion all these must be cut out and my god there is a more than a few....to find them to help minimize the damage do you start at the hole and slit parallel with the stalk til you find it or what? that would be my guess i just wanted to know how you went about it. thanks

First get tweezers and a razor knife or blade.

Then slice the stem vertically on one side. I have had to cut straight threw too.

Pull the worm out and tape or zip tie back together.

The bud above where you cut will be fine.

ok well I just got back from visiting the patches and did some close up inspection of the plants to find multiple holes up and down a lot of my branches I cut some of them up only to find nothing. Also the bulges in the stems are obviously from these things too. I found one in a bulge and started looking for those more and just got so frustrated and upset cutting my plants all up that I finally just cut about an 8 inch section off my plant completely that had a bulge in it... brought it over to my little work bench and sliced it up to find not one...not two... but three!! of these mother fuckers.....THREE!! in just an 8 INCH SECTION!!! OMG!! I am so stressed out right now its unbelievable. These worms are super bright red and they are about a half inch long.
Now I never mentioned this in my thread but last year I did harvest some of the wild weed...dried it and cured it and when I was going through it i found these same cock suckers. Bright red bud worms... Seriously cutting all these out I think is out of the question...unless I can find some way to pin point there location....otherwise all my plants will be slashed up like crazy....I seriously would consider just devoting a day to each plant and getting this taken care of by means of slicing but there is so many of these holes plus not to mention some of them are just holes that lead to nothing.....I heard someone say there is something you can use to kill pests inside and out...is this true? sorry for the long post but this is a very important matter to me at this time. Thanks

There is something that will kill them but it must be sprayed on the plants befor eit enters. I have found eggs today. Tommorow I will soak my girls. Problem is that it's supposed to have on and off showers this week. Which means more $$$ in Caterpillar killer. I use Safer Caterpillar killer and or incest killer.

From my experience there is nothing else you can do. Just be as prepared as you can. Next season you'll know that much more and be able to fight offensively instead of defensively.
