Planning First Setup, Trying to avoid Mother Plant.....

Ok.....so I'm trying to avoid a mother. I'm looking at at 60-80 site aero set up. Needless to say seeds would be very costly to just outright buy them all the time. I'm a newb so don't flame me to bad, but this does seem feasable to me.

I have a space about 5x10. Instead of one 4x8 or something I can do two 4x4's. Get the seed for the first grow and plant in one tent. Clone those and get the other tent going with the clones. And just repeat that cycle and avoid a mother. In concept from what i know (i'm a newb, lots of research but still a newb :-P) this would seem to be a good way to circumvent a mother plant and the additional setup needed for her.

Good Idea? :?:

Also, just for reassurance. I'm looking to maximize yield with an emphasis on quick turn around time as well. An aeroponic set up is definately the way to go as to say a 12 site ebb grow monster or something in there right?

Thank you to anyone who responds. Have a wonderful day :)

I hate to say it but use clones man.........

Having a mother is a lifesaver and plus you cant really keep taking clones from clones forever.

What happens when a plant dies. Or one herms or something like that . Where are you gonna get your next stock from ? Wait a month to bring one up from seed ?

Buy some cheap cheap good seeds. Skunk number 1 or something (like 20 for 30 pounds) A good hardy strain. Grow those and then work towards finding a keeper mother.

Or buy some shit hot seeds and look towards finding a keeper mother.

But seriously you are gonna need somewhere to veg a mother or a plant to take clones from at some point and having one on hand at all times is something that at some point might save your grow.

Your first grow Aero is a little serious, you screw up or lose a pump and you could lose the lot. Then you don't even have a mother to take more cuts from.

I hope you dont take this the wrong way but I say get a mother and possibly try a simpler method for your first time.

If you really want to stick with aero you definately need a mother. Cuttings grow faster and better than seed plants IMO

then again this is all IMO formulate your own opinion from what you read here and elsewhere.

Hope this helps.

I was still hoping to get some input. I still don't see why the clone idea wouldn't work. Does anyone do this or give me more info as to why it wouldn't work or be a bad idea?

Also, Just ordered my first piece of equipment. Got a 5x tent. Aero is out, looks to intensive for a newb such as myself. I'm now looking at a 4x4 table, ebb flow system. Seems to be the best for a sog set up. Something like this......

first off Genetic Drift -Genetic drift or allelic drift is the change in the frequency of a gene variant (allele) in a population due to random sampling.[SUP][1]
[/SUP]
When you clone - clones of clones, eventually the strain will begin to mutate or deform. this is over a period of years and may not apply to you, but if you plan on a long term solution, clones of clones is not it.

When a good grower picks a strain to grow, it is always best to plant 10 or so seeds of each type. Within any one seed there is the possibility for 4 distinct phenotypes, which could mean 4 very different plants.

So out of 10 seeds lets say you got 3 phenotypes
3 typeA
4 typeB
3 typeC

Now out of those seeds you find that typeB produces way more then either A or C. And then out of those 4 seeds you pick the plant that is the strongest and most robust. This is your mother. Now you will always have That Plant, you never need to do this again, because you have the best of the best.

This is why we use mothers, it's a vetting process, you've got to cull the herd.

Now the other problem you have is when 30% of your seeds are maie, Are you just going to pull them and leave huge gaping holes in your setup? Or worse yet Hermaphrodite? Motherhood is always the same. Same plant, same genes, same growth, SAME SEX.

Couldn't a said it better cannatrick. Mother plants should only be cloned when they've become to root bound or worn out. But it shouldn't be often. Love hunting for a good mother plant, looking for a keeper Blue widow right now.
