planning first grow

whats up everyone, im planning my first grow and have some questions id like answered. im gonna buy seeds from attitude because ive heard there the best. i was looking at the pineapple skunk from humbolt. anyone ever use this strain? i want a medium height strain because my room will only be 4 ft high. looking for a strain with good yeild and fluffy buds. i plan on buying the apollo or ipower 600w off amazon. anyone use those lights? im gonna run a small 240cfm fan with a diy carbon filter because my room will be 6x6x4. i dont want to run the fan off the plant timer but im not sure how i can cycle the fan on n off every 30 min, what can i use? as for soil i want to run fox farm ocean forest but my local hydro store only carrys happy frog, which i heard wasnt as good. nutewise im not sure what to run... i was going to just go fox farm but i found a site running 40% off advanced nutrients. will the 1 liter bottle last me a grow for 4 plants? which ones would i run? i have lots more questions that i will need answered so thanks in advance.

I would concerned with only four feet to have space for lights and the plants. You don't want burn them and it canbe a pain to tend to them. I would also worry about heat.

I keep my fans running 24-7. Unless you are doing CO2 bombs or something that needs it sealed, keep the air flowin.

A liter will ladt a while. You are only adding in a Tbsp at most per gallon. I don't know their nutes, but can't be too much diff than the Fox Farms I use. Make sure you get the right ones for veg and flower.

And PH everything...

Just to get things going i'd say read up about "Scrog" growing, it's almost a must with limited height.

Your bottle of nutes will last, no worry.

Decide on your soil and plant your seeds, giving you time to find out what you need to before they get any real size..

FWIW I've got the Apollo 600 with a cool tube and like it OK, only been running it about a month though.

im also concerned about height. i was looking up lst so it will grow horizontally. i havent looked into scrog much but i think i will. as for heat i have an a/c unit im going to run in the room. thanks for the help guys.

I just top once or twice, and use a rigid metal screen from a hardware shop.
More harvest with a Scrog as light gets everywhere, all we're doing (or trying to) is taking their natural xmas tree shape, and flattening it as much as possible.

They're also great for itching newbie fingers, as there's the regular "low stress" training of the plant under the screen to be done...

I can't chime in on scrog. I'm not there yet. OP, LST from my limited experience doesn't control height a ton. What it does is get more main colas, so in the end you have many tops, not just one. I think it more depends on how high you let her get, lst or not, before switching to flower. Remember that she will get 2-3x taller the first few weeks of flower. There are lots of techniques you can try. 12-12. SOG, etc. Growing more small plants at once with low yield, SOG, may work. There's people doing cool stuff in 1 and 2 litre bottles. But for a new growerr, I personally try to keep it simple and make sure basics are covered before going too complex. LST is pretty simple and I had luck with it. If I didn't kill my girls or break them, you can too! I'd just hate to see all going well, you get to flower, and suddenly they are too tall and you are screwed because they are going to scorch before they are done.

yea that would suckk, do u lst before u scrog?

do you guys think i should go with a auto because of my height limitation?
I wouldn't, but

4 feet is not enough height for a 600 watt hps, imo.
The light will probably take up over a foot. The pot will take up about a foot.
You have less than 2 feet left and that is right up to the light.
You want your plants about a foot away from a 600 watt in a cooled reflector.

Even if you grew 12/12 from seed you are going to push right up against the lights.

that is still a bit of an issue if you went with autos

An expensive, inefficient route is to get 2-3 250 watt hps with cooled reflectors.
as long as you run enough air through them, the buds can go right up to the light and even touch the glass.

I have a small grow area under the stairs that is maybe 4.5 feet tall and have a 250 hps and some cfl on the side
I scrog.

I am still pretty new, but grew some strong autos, and got the idea
that with autos the feature is that they flower immediately and at 24/0
and not that they have a strong yield. (though this seems to be constantly
changing through breeding)

I am betting that a regular photo period plant, grown properly in a SCROG,
will have a higher yield than a similarly sized auto.

BTW: the only nutrient that I seem to be using up is Liquid Karma.

Good luck,

JD

as for soil i want to run fox farm ocean forest but my local hydro store only carrys happy frog, which i heard wasnt as good.
When you plant your seeds, be careful using straight happy frog. I recently planted a germinated seed in straight happy frog, and it was too hot. The first true leaves emerged with nute burn, and contorted from there. While it looks like it may be fine, I think happy frog is probably too hot to grow seeds in directly, at least at first. I've heard that ocean forest is even hotter than happy frog, so I'd be careful with that too.

do u think ill have enough room for to scrog? i was wondering if i ran a 600w at 75% does it still run as hot?

most people ive asked say ocean forest is great. im going to add 1/3 perlite for drainage...idk if that will effect how hot it is?
