planning first grow..advice on lighting :)

Hi All,

i originally posted this in the wrong forum..so sorry !

Well I'll try and make it as short as I can for everyone ;) I'm new here as you can tell, but ive been researching the forum and others for a few weeks now and can't seem to find the exact answer to this question. I'm really sorry if it has been answered somewhere, but I just can't find it lol

I guess its not really a question, but I was wondering if you old pros could give me some advice.

I have a 2.5wx1.5dx5.5h storage cab to work with, and ive planned most everything but cant decide on a lighting source. I'm kinda torn between using fluros, or picking up a 150 w hps, or maybe a 250 watt hps or even a 400. Now im pretty sure from what ive researched that 400 might just be way too much for a box that size, but do you think even 250 is maybe too much as well? should I just stick with fluros to help fight the heat? to help you understand a bit, my setup is in the bedroom, but we live in an apartment. so i want it somewhat hidden just in case, but doesnt have to be too stealthy, just enough in case the landlord needs to come in and to keep our 2 kitties away from shit too lol now i havent started anything yet, so im a fresh piece of clay to mold if you wish lol I just cant afford to go crazy with cooltubes, air cooled etc...i can punch as many holes for vents as id like, but it will be venting into the room, so im not sure if it wouldnt just raise the ambient temps too much anyways. so basically..should i split the cabinet horizontally, use top for setting up some clones, bottom to grow sog or scrog and use fluros? or maybe skip the whole splitting in two thing, and stick an hps of either 150,250 or 400 watts in there? its my first grow so anything to keep us smoking free of charge is all our goals are, plus it seems like itll be a blast lol anyways..when it comes down to it, whats the largest light you'd recommend for a grow of this small size? any input at all would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance all!

think you need around 10,000 lumens per sqr foot, that's around the consensus on this site (but apparantely the more the merrier)... you didn't say if you were using meters, or feet talking bout your cabinet.... either way, a 150 watt hps is around 16,000 lumens... do the math....

well i converted it to feet for my american friends...but i was more concerned about the heat being produced, not how many lumens per plant or ft2 i need. i know a 150 is cutting it real tight for output, but whats the heat diff between the 150 and a 250..thats my worry
