Okay so I'm in my 4th harvest, been growing since June, doing research before I began and as I go along. So I'm going to post pics because I have a feeling I'm harvesting too soon with some plants that give a super nice heady high to some that I barely notice. Ive been using bagseed for practice before I spend real money for feminized ones or clones. Plants are under 1000w HPS, ph is normal for soil, half organic/half 'chemical' happy frog grow. Plant is about 7 1/2 weeks into flowering, trichs are about 70% opaque, pistils 30 to 40% darkened and approximately 30/35% receded. How do these look to you? Plant had nutrient toxicity that I attempted to flush out...

Took pics with and with out flash;-)

thanks been confused about this trich thing and the desired result im looking to achieve. Should I wait unitl the pistils have receded 80% isnt that more important than color change? plant is small buds havent grown much in a week....

The white pistils will turn Amber and most will recede into the buds, but most importantly the trichs will go from clear to cloudy and then some Amber, you want to harvest when trichs have turned mostly cloudy with some amber.

The entire plants changes its look when the harvest window opens. One day it looks shiny white from the trichs, and a couple days later it looks like it's been dusted with super light brown sugar.

I go by the look of the bud structure to determine ripeness. I've never been able to use trichs as a good indicator. A bud is ripe when the calyxes are swelling and the pistols are mostly receded. Usually the tips of buds ripen last, while the bottom of buds show signs of ripeness first, so if just the tip has some white hairs left, it could still be ready.
