Picking Strains for my First Grow.

Hey guys, I'm currently getting everything ready for my first grow while I'm saving the money to get it started. One of the things I' having difficulty deciding is which strains to grow.

Because I don't have any experience whatsoever I want a strain that's easy to grow and high yielding with a short flowering time. I've definitely been leaning towards Serious Seeds Chronic. I'm thinking a 1 square metre sea of green for this. I know a SOG isn't the easiest for a first grow but I just want to get stuck in and I've been reading that Chronic leans towards just one big cola. I want to sell a bit as well, to be able to keep expanding the grow. Any other suggestions for this purpose?

Aside from a big yielder I want a top class indica. The only named strains that I have been able to get in my area are Blue Cheese and White Cheese, both of which were excellent. I'm thinking of growing Blue Cheese right now. The taste of strong deep cheese on inhale with blueberry on exhale I can't imagine being beaten and the high is just perfect for watching television, an alert cerebral couch lock. I watched the first two seasons of the Wire on BC and it was mind-blowing. The yield isn't the most important factor here, really just taste and quality of high.

The real difficulty I have been having with selecting strains is a sativa. I'm all about quality over quantity so I have been thinking Serious Seeds Kali Mist. The probem with this is it having such a long flowering period. I'll be doing an indoor grow where height is a factor, so most likely I'd flower straight from rooted clones. Still a 14-16 flowering period is daunting for a first grow. Other thoughts about a sativa I've been having is one of Mr Nice Seeds classics; Mango Haze, Super Silver Haze, Neville's haze. Maybe NL5 Haze.

My main criteria strating to grow is to really explore what weed can do. All I get in my area are couch lock indicas, which I do love with a passion, but I'm dying to try a full on Sativa with an energising clear cerebral high.

Also, I'd really like a strain to help sleep. My Mum has suffered from sleep problems most of her life and up until now she's been gowing through the rounds of pharmaceuticals to no avail. The only one that she had success with (I can't remember the name right now) was well know for heart problems in later life and physical addiction, so right now she's getting about 2-4 hours sleep a night. I know green might not be the be-all-end-all for her but its worth a try at the very least. I've heard good things about White Rhino from Greenhouse Seeds helping people to sleep but I'm undecided. After reading about Greenhouse Seeds history I'd rather get something from someone like Mr Nice Seeds. I've read that their Medicine Man is the shit.

Any suggestions whatsoever are more than welcome.

Endless Sky - Dr Greenthumb: super potent indica stone, some say the most potent they've had; 42 days flower; 500 g/m2 sog

The Flav - Subcool (TGA): narcotic; mangos/orange; The high is very intense and is reported by smokers as trippy and good for pain relief.

Medicine Man - Mr Nice (White Rhino - Greenhouse): intense and powerful

Godzilla - VonDank Seeds: I've been reading posts and reviews about Doc's beans and they're very positive. Dr VonDank is a forum member, here's his Godzilla thread, you could pm him from there if you want more info.

White Russian - Serious Seeds: potent head stone; the finest genetics and quality of stone.

Blue Moonshine - DJ Short: a super potent blueberry Indica, coated with a strong concentration of tall standing trichomes. Blue Moonshine produces a very narcotic experience - body high blueberry.

Trainwreck - Dr Greenthumb (S1), or Greenhouse for the Arcata cut, or Sagamartha for the Califronia cut: It hits fast, and it hits hard. Stoney on the body, confusing and trippy on the brain. A truly powerful smoke.

A White Widow from the indica side - Dutch Passion or Mr Nice? not sure - would have a couch lock effect if harvested amber and smoked to excess or be a versatile night time social smoke if taken in small quantities.

Seraph by Breeders Choice: breed for pain relief and extreme sedative effects for people with insomnia. This might have too strong a sedative effect for you.

Chronic will be a great stain.

Endless Sky by Dr Greenthumb is fantastic: potent, 6 weeks flower, 500 g/m2 SOG.

Blue Cheese is fantastic, I've got PeakSeedsBC's version Skunkberry.

Northern Lights is very easy to grow.

Querkel - Subcool (TGA): High type- Indica head and grape taste make it total all day headstash. Smells: Grapes, fruit, berries, musty

I'm not sure that "alert" and "couch lock" should be placed so close in the same sentence.

White Russian by Serious seeds will be a potent cerebral stone.

I've been growing Serious' Kali Mist, it's worth the wait. A dreamy up-opiate. I've grown about 50" of stem with 6" of height with a CCOB grow. Still takes a long time to flower, I've got short flowering strain's to hold me over.

Here's a picture of a Kali Mist that finished 6" above the bucket rim and will probably only produce 4 cups of bud.

From the top. It wasn't ripening, as soon as I bent the colas horizontal it started to turn amber. Perhaps coincidence.

The Kali Mist from above was a small clone I threw in the bucket with a small Bubblegum clone, it didn't develop well. Here's a great Kali Mist about 4 weeks into flower, the ripe one from above is to the right. The tallest colas on the big KM are about 12" - 14".

Bubblegum - Serious Seeds is easy to grow, great high, tastes like bubblegum and icing sugar. More sativa than TH's, 9 weeks flower. Crystal clear euphoric high.

Jack The Ripper by Subcool is an 8 week flowering haze cross. Very trippy. TGA has some other short flowering sativas with different effects if you want something clear.

JillyBean - Subcool: Extremely up beat and happy buzz great for depression and bad days; tastes like Dreamcicles. Check out all of Subcools strains, I've got 3 in flower - all easy.

Flo - DJ Short: not a full sativa but motivating; musky grape. A really nice strain, touchy to grow.

Cheese - Big Bhudda or Dr Greenthumb or Greenhouse

Maybe a pure Haze.

Take a look at The Void by Subcool, it seems to be his clearest headed strain. TGA has a few sativas that are short flowering with different effects.
