So I've been using my neighbors ph meter and would like to pick up my own as well as a ppm meter but am unsure where to start. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I have used these with excellent results so far. 1 grow completed and another one in progress and they have been spot on. I check then once a month for calibration.

i use a black hanna. does tds and ph.
any meter that doesnt have builtin temp compensation is useless, whether or not it displays the temp is a different thing.

I've used pH meters for years...my advice: get one good one and 1-2 cheapos....It helps to check them against each other, and calibrate as needed.... if you can't afford a top of the line bluelab or whatever, then get a decent Hanna or Milwakee and a couple of the $10 yellow ones...also get some storage solution and 4.0,7.0 & 10 calibration packets

Your answers been posted multiple times. Bluelab. Personally I prefer the truncheon + pH pen over the trimeters

Great advise. I was coming on this thread to say the same thing. Get a couple yellow, cheap ones as back ups. Mine really don't drift around too much either. But I trust my Bluelabs.

Should I be concerned with my reservoir temp?
I missed this: hell yeah...but IMHO I think people are chasing the wrong param; what you are really concerned with is O2 and the amount of dissolved O2 in water...there is a easily understood direct relation between water temp and O2 (many, many charts, et) ...you can get away with higher temps if you got good turbulence and air/water mixing (but only to a point) .and while I'm at it; make sure whatever means you use to keep the water aerated is reliable and checked OFTEN ...my personal poref is powerheads, but to each his own (IMHO airstones are playin with fire

That's all ways the way. I do have a good Hydro shop who are good at looking into new things.
