ph testing methods. burnt new growth, possibe ph problem

Does everyone flush their fox farm ocean forest before use? i didn't, and i think i have a nute problem. I have eight clones i transplanted from cubes to five gallon pots. five days later the clones are growing, but new growth on two of the clones are yellowy with burnt tips. i didn't use nutes yet because a friend had told me not to use nutes for two weeks on fox farm, because it has enough for two weeks. but the owner of the hydro store i go to told me to start with nutes, because of the yellow leaves.
that was fine but im a newb. i didn't feel comfortable with using the dyes for ph. ("is it blue, green, or yellowy green.....FUCK!") So I bought a milwaukee ph51 digital ph meter. got home and found on the internet people have calibration problems with it. I bought the ph 7 for calibration, and its been soaking for seven hours before i use it for the first time. just confused? I appreciate any feedback!

took some pic of two different clones. some leaves look a little burnt. i know the picture came out bad, but the top new growths are yellowy compared to the leaves of the main growth, which are a healthy green.

anyone have any ideas. I'm going to nute them tomorrow when the soil is dry, botanicare pure blend pro grow, 1/4 strength.

why would you nute them If they all ready show nute burn?

i wouldnt use any nutes get some more input im having similar issues and everyoune told me it was either nute burn(over fert) or my pH was off anyway everyone said flush with water that was properly pH'ed between 6.2-6.8 but it looks like over fert. over fert can cause the plant not to soak the nutes up so it looks like a deficiency when its really over fert.

im having a shit time with my ph as well... noone seems to be able to help me with my thread though

what's weird is the other six clones don't have burn. but the new growths are light green, borderline light-green-yellow.

what do you guys use for testing ph. it was just hard for me to tell what was 6.5. 7 is blue 6 is yellow. the color i sided with was a yellowy blue. but some could say it was blue. frustrating. that's why i got the digital ph meter, but people say they have calibration problems. is anyone having the same problems. does anyone have practical solutions. i really appreciate the help.

i felt pretty confident with the dyes, because it wasn't all the way blue, and definitely not yellow. i' thinking it might be the soil. some have told me to flush the soil before use, even fox farm. "they claim the soil is neutral, but you never know" could this be a possibility for the nute burnt. the burn only showed up two days after planting the clones in soil, no nutes added

sounds like it give them a fush at your next watering.

So whats the deal??

I use FFOF and botanicare pure blend pro nutes and i ran into the same problem my first go round.

FFOF is very "hot" with nutes right out of the bag, when i bought it the first time the @ the local growshop the dude told me to wait a good month before using any kind of nutrient and he wasnt kidding.
I thought for sure it was ph or something else that was causing the problems but it wasnt, it was me being a little ancy and jumping the gun on the feeding. ocean forest does an incredible job of holding a good ph for your plants.

Ive also found that the botanicare pbp nute line is a little strong so always feed less then you think and ease the plants into it.
I would honestly say that you can use FFOF soil with no veg nutes at all and start feeding when you switch to flower, as long as you dont veg for longer than 6 weeks. thats what ive done with great success. just my 2 cents bro

lol... yellow n blue would be green bro

lol matching color can be a real pain. shoot for the 6.5 It doesn't have to be dead on just close. I shoot for 5.5 on mine and would say. I get close. I try for hitting low sometimes and let it get up to 7 other times. Another thought. Most all the leaf that starts on a clone will die off fairly soon after it roots and starts growing.

that looks like nitorgen definciency due to ph imbalance. It looks to high. With your tapwater being ph baisc about 8 your foxfarm does not have enough lime to buffer it to 6.8. Chek your water ph and then your runoff. Adjust accordingly. It is an easy fast fix. Should see some results in a few days. Foxfarm has enough nutes for a long time and I noticed initial stunting when seedlings started but noithing serious and worked it out in a few weeks most.
