I believe I have the same problem. For weeks now my pH would swing up just a few hours after I would adjust it from 5.6. I'd go back to measure and it'd be 6.3! My roots have a brownish color but don't appear to be slimy. I thought maybe it was the GH Micro that was staining them brown, but now I think it is an infection. I can't obtain food grade H2O2 right now so it'll have to be bleach even though I hate resorting to such measures.

u can use the 3% at drugstore u will just need a lot. You can also try a root rinse with a 1% HOOH soln to clean off the slime. Clean and sterilize your rez and any tubing before putting plants back in. Bleach may make your bud taste funny but better than losing it like I did I guess. Hygrozyme and SM-90 may help as well. Also, start dropping frozen water bottles in your rez- will cool down the son and make it harder for bacteria to thrive so damn fast.

the bleach from drug stores isnt the same as the kind from the grow stores.
the 3% has additives in it that aint good for your plants! the additives are
perservatives to aid in shelf life. just a FYI

I think you meant H2O2 not bleach, but I get ya :)
I've heard the same thing, I believe from Al B Fuct, the 3% stuff from CVS isn't usable.
Instead of bleach, I'm gonna try using HTH pool shock as described in another thread. Apparently this is what is used in Rez-clear. I'll be the guinea pig on this one!

Hygrozyme is good stuff when used from the beginning in a clean system. But I have found adding it after the roots have already become infected just causes an even worse slime/foaming problem.....

I'm hoping that it will not affect taste like you said bleach will hellraizer. Although it pool shock is chlorine to a great extent, it's also got some other stuff in it as well. And it'll be in such a low dose as to not harm anything. Whoever started that thread said that it only added .5ppm to his solution, which is almost negligible. Well, I'll see I guess! It won't have the oxygenating effect on the roots that H2O2 would, but is a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to obtain.

serapis is using it in his EZC and a few others in his thread the mushing of serapis.
if your going to take the great leap and use it please start a thread with a day to
day on it I think alot of people would like to know the alternative to all this over
priced stuff on the market.

will do hellraizer. I don't think I'll post pics because I doubt very much that it'll un-brown the roots, but I'll see if it stops these wicked pH swings.

Does anyone use any kind of products for preventive maintenance on root rot?

redoctober and serapis are using a pool shock product, to combat root rot/stem rot/ any pythium/bactiria
pool shock as I understand it is the same a clear res just way cheaper

Ive had the same proublem in an areo system. I ran all organic nutes and the ph was the same way i could never keep it stable with organics.I went back to chemical nutes put a bio filter in the resevore there for fish tanks. They filter the water and if u have heat proublems with ur water the bio filter helps some how. I could never figure out why my ph would never stay stable

so are you saying that your pH wouldn't stabilize even after you went back to chemical nutes and used the bio filter (btw, what's a bio filter?)?

I don't know if I said it in a previous post but I'm using GH nutes in a 2-3-1 micro:grow:bloom ratio. But as hellraizer said, I think I have some sort of unknown infection going on.

P.S. to hellraizer30, hellraiser is my favorite Ozzy song! Is that where your handle is from?

a bio filter is a thing people use in fish tanks to keep the water clear and filterd. I read an article in an old skunk magazine about them and figured it was worth a try. most people at hydro stores dont no what they r. It keeps roots clean and helps with root rot and so on. If ur water gets to hot it helps some how with that to. When i went back to chemical nutes it took care of my ph proublems

so hell raiser, Ur a fellow soldier. nice. E4, with the 147th armored, 91D/11B. 8 years honorable...anyway, h202 is the shit. i had been using zone which gave me some massive roots, then in the 5th week of flower my ph went crazy and my rez smelled like ass, couldn't understand it. Everything was optimal, temps, oxygen, huge roots, etc..so i Doubled the "zone" dosage and nada. Ph went fucking nutz, and was uncontrollable. rinsed, bombed them with h202 for a few hours, then re-filled. ph held, then a couple days later starts going nuts, doubled the "zone", nada. i tried a new theory that this is what "they" wanted. they were manipulated the ph to get more of certain Nutes(Phosphorus, etc..).Reluctantly i let it be. growth had slowed, and at early 6 weeks i wasn't seeing any explosion in growth. one strain looks like it went through PH hell, the other looks fine, just no extra growth. Finally when my pH hit 5.2 after 20mls of ph "up" to a 5 gallon Res the night before, i said F**k that. i started running h202 at 3mls every 3 days, and add 1ml everyday with top off since Monday, my ph is stabilizing and they are slowly starting to eat and drink again. h202 is the shiznit. i still don't know what i have or had, but it wasn't root rot. it was some sort of bacteria which h202 is beating the shit out of. only problem is i hear once you remove h202 the plant is left without any defense system due to h202's scorched earth method . anyone carexj13 5.5 weeks.jpg to elaborate?
