Perplexing problem with ventilation portable ac unit and use of carbon filter

I have a dpac7099 portable ac unit with a 5 inch duct for heat exhaust (heat goes out the window through this duct). The ac takes care of high humidity, high heat and ventilates the entire grow space, which is a grow tent 4x4x6.5.

Everything is going well so far in the veg stage except this ventilation setup is missing one major thing...odor control. Soon it will be time for flowering and I expect these five plants to have some odor problems if you know what I mean.

I would like to get a carbon filter, I already have a inline fan, but i don't know how it will fit into the current setup. The ac pulls in air through square vents in the back of the unit, so there is no way to attach the carbon filter to that.

Do I just use the filter as a "recirculating scrubber"? Will that take care of the smell?

One person I talked to suggested I use the filter as a recirculating scrubber and place it by the ac's intake.

Any other suggestions?

I attached a diagram of the ac unit if that helps.

I would think one should hook up some venting to the heat exhaust port on the back and attach a good fan and filter to that before blowing the rest out the window?

I had the same issue about a month ago. I have a carbon scrubber also, but your A/C will suck that odor out and things will get really smelly on other side of that A/C exhaust pipe. I bought some ONA and set it up right beside my A/C. Now all you smell is Fresh Linen

So hows the dpac7099 dolby portable ac unit? I want to get one if its ok. My area is 4x4 how do u use an ac unit with suplementedr co2

Ya but that would be pushing air through the filter, not pulling the air, would that work?
I would imagine it would. The thing that makes activated carbon so great is its surface area. Its abundantly porous, i'm guessing as long as the air comes in contact with it regardless of intake or outake it will work. I just put one in my grow room and its done about 75% of the smell, but i'm using a 140mm PC fan. Your inline would work purrrfect. Also heard that ona stuff works like a charm. My buddy used it for his last grow and it worked out great for him. Just keep it away from your plants so they dont taste like it afterwards.

I made a home made carbon filter in my portable AC back in the day.. Go to Pets Mart and buy activated carbon in the aquarium aisle. Next go buy some pantyhose. Next take your pantyhose and put it over the duct, fill with carbon and cover with the other panty hose.. Worked okay.
