percentages?

OK, It may just be me n my aspergers, but when it comes to percentages in breeding cannabis, how is it measured?
take for example SKUNK No 1, it has 50 percent Acapulco Gold and 25 percent of Afghani and Columbian Gold each , yet it also states that is 35% to 65% sativa/indica.
this confuses the hell out of me, how can you take both into concideration when breeding? im guessing its realy simple lol and just me and my understanding

its probably obvious to you lot, but escapes me lol
With the seed stuff and breeding it's crazy. They have dominant and recessive genes, just like humans do. And the offspring will never be identical. Every seed will be a little different like us. Some plants will look like momma and some like daddy, lol.

OK I'm starting to sound like a psycho now,. Time to smoke another bowl I guess.

Yeah unless its a ibl or something solid those estimations are a pure guess even then you have phenotypical variance and outliers and stuff aint like cannabis is even a properly domesticated crop like say corn

You are confusing lineage ratio with indica/sativa ratio.
Lineage skunk #1 x (Acapulco Gold x Columbian Gold). This will give you your 50/25/25 percentage.
Since each plant has a different sativa to indica ratio, they be computed together.
I’m sure the ratios that you posted are the internet listing for skunk#1.
In my opinion, it doesn’t account for the high sativa ratio of the second parent.
I understand how this can be confusing. Off my head, the sativa/ indica ratio of this cross would be closer to 50/50. A hybrid with hybrid effects.
Meaning the plant will show characteristics of both indica and sativa. The up and down effects produced by hybrids is something old timers complain about.
Some people find them unsettling because their buzz can be all over the place.
As the effects of this type of bud takes over your body, one minute you can be chilling, then the next minute, you are off to the races. Or vice versa of course. Hopes this helps.
it would be hard for me to put resources into something offered by someone who did it take the time to figure out the correct ratios. i mean, why post them at all. Especially when the discription describe sativa like effects and your ratios say 65 % indica.

thank you, i was thinking along those lines, as you say, chilling one moment and raceing around the next. thanx

so lab testing? thats what i origanaly thaught the percentages came from
I could be wrong, but I think those tests are very expensive and breeders were claiming percentages before that technology was invented. I think they're eyeballing the F1 and guessing based off of traits. A strain that is 90/10 sativa dominate probably isn't showing any indica, but it's in there so they give it the 10%.

To me it's only useful to predict the stretch. I couldn't care less about the ratio once the bud has been harvested.

mom and dad is 50% 50% grandma is 25% and then just mixing you get 10% and soo on. its all just randoms.
i know some breeders you get 2 seeds one looks like an indika other one is like a sativa....

Cannabis was cultivated and farmed close to five thousand years before corn
Yet its still nowhere near as predictable domesticated or uniform that will change more and more places its becoming legal now and crop scientists and the likes are getting involved with it

The real truth? It is all ass grabbing as most "pollen chuckers" don't know first what they really have and then they breed for 2 or diligent ones 3 times before they announce their great improvements on the world. As a comparison with a strain you probably all know, Mr. Greengenes bred Cherry Bomb through 14 generations before it was released. That is a hybrid of which we don't really know alot other than we enjoy it.

With hybrids you just don't know. I can say with some certaintly that the Malawi I bred was probably fairly true to being sativa as it took as long as 22 or 23 weeks to mature. I have another strain, Durban Poison, that I know takes 16 to 17 weeks to mature. It is certainly not the 8 week Dutch stepped on variety.

Hell, we don't really know why the plant gets us high. The caveman,"I smoke and get high" is as far as most think. But the chemical workings on our nervous system is still beyond where science is today. Not to mention what role terpenes have in the "high" or how that manifests in different people.

We don't know.

The cannabis lore is full of misinfo and nonsense. If you really want to understand it, learn as much as you can about genetics and punnet squares and then comb through the cannabis info. It's your real best bet at making heads or tails of any of it.
