percentage wise, how much crop do you lose a year to mold, pest, mildew, etc etc

this being only my 3rd outdoor season, its seems like some stuff is just inevitable, like mold, and even moths although i did prevent a lot of them this year compared to last

one thing i was considering next year that i seen from here was a mesh bug cover that allows for sun to come in, i guess i would have to custom make it to fit

for pest, mainly moths, dont have any problems with other bugs, just using safer brand (which i also learned this year should be spraying until 1 week before harvest for good results, at least lightly mist) and bt doesnt cut it, i put my plants with in the shed at night during late budding and it seems to help a bunch with eggs

i had all my top colas of my plants affected in some way by despite heavy watch, i would say ive lost about 20-25 percent so far due to outdoor environment

Nice thread and interesting to see what people will "honestly" say about their yearly outdoor plant loss, especially guerrilla growers. Myself I will be as honest as I know and tell you that I have lost close to 50% of my outdoor guerrilla grow to Pests like deer and Rabbits. I also had quite a few bag seed so I did get some males as well. Thankfully I planned ahead and planted triple what I wanted to end up, lol almost 100 in the begining and around 50 now/harvest time.

yea it seems like you just gotta go big, do what you can to deter outdoor conditions and take a percentage of that, the bigger the intial grow/plan the larger the percentage but it'll never be 100 or even 80-90

I hear you completely Nowhereland and I felt the same way before, it's just I know how bad the deer are in my area North eastern Ontario and I can't be putting cages around my girls or building fences. It's too hard with the low flying choppers. I always start big and plan to loose a few spots at worst, if I don't loose any to rippers/cops or animals than great but I only plant 5-10 in any area and have multiple spots. It works out and usually I only get a few pounds anyway. I always loose some to animals.

I did my dry trim / jarring last night. My harvest was from a single plant closely (daily) monitored in the back yard. Dry wieght I'm looking a what appears to be 5-6oz of nice looking bud. My only loss was to grey mould. After the dust settled it looks like I lost about 1- 1.5oz to mould.

Keepers - 5-6 oz
Unusable / questionable - 1-1.5oz
Total - 6-7.5oz

17% - 20% Loss

I'm not quite done yet, but if nothing changes I will lose approx. 15%-20% to bud rot; no other losses to speak of.

I sure do wish botrytis preferred the airer, less desirble nugs near the bottom. :)

i lost a good third to bud rot, is there anytype of spray that can prevent rotting? Bacillus?
I used to lose about 15% due to mold per plant...But now I have cut it down from 0-5% per plant...I solved it by cutting my waterings to half amount...I never water in the morning when humidity is highest and overcast is present..I wait a few hours after overcast has burned off and even then i give less water or feeding(volume) than normal..I start this the first sign of mold on any plant..the mold stops spreading and the part affected dries out...peace

I've lost a lot of leaves to weather and frost. Other than that, just a few grams that looked rotty. In the past, I've had some serious loss and loss of potential due to flooding.

to help with mold problems, http://www.bioworksinc.com/products/rootshield-wp.php , i got rid of 100% of the mold problems in my area. was getting hit hard with fusarium and pythium which are highly present where im at. i will reaply every year just to be safe. other than that, lost about 15-20% to moths. wasnt able to keep them sprayed down with caterpillar killer. some areas got bad enough to warrent early harvest of most of the girls, but wasnt too bad since things seemed to mature much faster this year than years previous

good stuff in this post, there should be a sticky in the outdoor section for mold like the bud worm b/c it happens every year

ive found that puttin the plants in the shed at night reduces moth eggs and tehrefore catepillars dramatically

yea last year was my first grow and i was not prepared at all and inexperienced wich i still am out of 8 plants i lost half a plant to mites the same plant got destroyed by mold because it was in the ground and i couldn't move it out of the heavy rain we had for 2 months. i lost a hole tree that got squashed by a 10 mr tree haha i think i cried that day. the 6 left well they all got mold but it wasnt to bad although i had to cut them down early but to my surprise holy fuck did they get me high as fuck seriously i trip out on this shit. but yea probably lost 1 tree worth out of the 6.(also probably lost some to bud worms)

this year im hiting up 40 plants and i have an undercover area prepared(moving 40 plants is going to be a fucking hassle especially cause their all apart). cleared big dead trees. mad sure all my trees are in pots, prepared my weekly organic insectiside spray(chilli, garlic, coriander). and i check up on them every day.

I was on it!! I l knew that dead matter from caterpillars would decay so I was checking daily. BT worked well as a bio spray therefore I only lost 2%. Had I left it any longer I would have had problems.

I probably lose a QP to mold from worms and worm damage. and last year I ended up losing around a half a P to mold from improper dry / cure.
