Paying for and having seeds shipped

I know this is an old topic but I've read through countless threads and there seems to be a false reality surrounding the advice. Then there's just the "does it even matter"?

Some say use a false name but the seeds are still coming to your address. There is a slight chance the substitute mailman doesn't deliver it and decides to open it up on his break after taking a leak behind a convenient store.

Use a PO Box. Here's another one that makes no sense. In order to obtain a PO Box in the USA you must show them positive, traceable, up-to-date identification. So the guy filling your slot just switched to decaf and is feeling about as chipper as Steven Wright accidentally squishes your padded envelope in with all the junk mail causing it to rip. He gives it to another to fill out the form "we're sorry but your mail was damaged in transit". This person takes notice of the stealth item and next thing you know curiosity gets the best of her and she finds the seeds. Her heart starts to beat strong. She thinks...hmmm maybe I can mix them in with my Zinnias and Sunflowers? Oh the cameras! I better report it! Maybe then I'll make the 6 o'clock news!

Then there's the whole credit, debit, etc thing. Even the temporary ones have to be traceable. You're going to use a cellphone...PING.....log on the old computer...PING....Not to mention credit card companies, banks and other financial institutions are oh so accommodating to "law enforcement". A person goes missing for a few hours and the next thing you know Nancy Grace is announcing everything she bought.

Which leads me to the conclusion, does it really all matter? If someone wants to nab you they will. They don't really need an excuse. You were smiling enough at Walmart might get you a trip to Guantanamo. I fail to see any fool proof safeguards. I think I'd be more worried about posting pictures of the sprouted seeds. Especially when you're posting a visual journal with progress reports. I'm not saying seed ordering is entirely safe but in the words of Tripper Harrison "It just doesn't matter". It's like a leap of faith or suicide. That's life, taking chances. Rewards seldom come to those twiddling their thumbs.

everyone wants to grow illegal plants but are to frightened to order seeds, imho if you are frightened of getting caught ordering seeds you are going to be fucking paranoid when your growing them.. ps ever heard of anyone caught by ordering seeds... me thinks not..

I think they(law) have bigger fish to fry that is unless the order has commercial street sales written all over it. In that case that seed collector has been on the watch list for some time. You should be a little afraid. If you're too carefree you will get caught.

ok here is the deal... I had seeds busted by customs 2 times in the same month. I think it was a totally freak accident cuz i have ordered from that place since and had no problems at all. Ok anyhow my point is this... I was busted and customs confiscated my seeds. I used my own address and real name, got busted twice in like a week or two, and nobody ever showed up at my door or anything. I continued to gow my indoor and outdoor plants, harvested them and still nothing. If anything was going to happen to me for ordering seeds, it would have happend by now. My conclusion is this... yes its a crime to buy seeds but i am guessing it is more of a misdimenor or something. they had my name and address and nothing... all i got was a letter in the mail saying my seeds were found and confiscated and that there was no further corrispondence neccessary.

Maybe they understand the prices and that's penalty enough? There are numerous things construed as contraband. I mean a few years ago the FDA had Stevia illegal. They could confiscate those. What I'm soaking up is it's a matter of chance and how well cloaked the seed companies are. That latter part should not be underestimated. If they just stick em in a clear plastic envelope, inside a padded one that's asking for the former(chance)to come about. I'm not sure what the exact scheduling is for an ungerminated seed because who is to say it wasn't cooked? You pretty much have to sprout it to mean much. It's as if it never happened if all a seed does is sit and look at you.

When mine got caught they still sent my seeds, What i got was the env with Green "Dept of Homeland Security" tape on the top with handwritting that said "Marijuana Seeds" on the tape and inside was 2 peices of bubble wrap with each pack in it. I only ordered 2 packs so its not like the got 1 and not the other they deff saw both,
But it did take 5months to recieve from the date on the post mark.

That's weird Killer Bud. How long ago was that? I ask because I'm trying to get a feel for policy. With so many states having medical marijuana programs I have to think quite a few seeds are coming into the States. I'm also wondering if they're onto any particular seed companies that may be following a similar pattern? Or is it come down to chance again?

i agree with the person who said about getting his seeds confiscated from customs.. i've had the same thing happen to me, and i almost feel over cuz the place they busted has some of the best stealth i've seen... i hadn't gotten the beans in like a month, and i told the breeder, and he resent no ?s asked.. aw week later i get the re ship.. the next day i get the same exact package, and i'm like sweet, my first order came through.. when i go to open it, i notice its been opened and was stapled shut.. when i opened it it had the famous customs letter, listing all different types of contraband.. steriods, amyl nitrates fire works i think, and the last one was drugs.. the drug box was checked, and handwritten next to it said seeds.
it gave me some phone number i could call. and if not than no further actions would be taken... i agree. i used my real name and addy, was growing at the time, and nothing has happened.. its been well over a year now..
and everything the op said about using credit cards and everything being traceable is very true.. but the way i look at it, nothing ventured, nothing gained.. and for me ordering some seeds over the internet is the least of the things that will get me busted..

here is a thought. I know that accuiring live cannabis seeds is illegal in the states and germinating the seeds is obviously illegal, but is it illegal to simple "have seeds in your posession" ? I am asking because i don't know.

it always says the acquisition of cannabis seeds is illegal.. now i'm not sure if acquisition just mean getting them, or having them in your possesion, thats a good question, but i would imagine just having them is illegal as well.. i know i've heard of people getting arrested for posession of cds just for a seed, crazy but i know i've heard that story before.. i'm sure its only a misdemeanor though..

That's my point Racerboy71,

"nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Technically we're being watched right now talking in a forum. Can we help it if we're like wine grape growers who want to import the best strains and savor the best mother nature has to offer? It's also the same as microbrewery who wants the best hops in the world so his beer is something to be experienced.

I don't think I'm going to settle for schwagweiser.

yah, but the only problem with your analogy is that for some crazy reason buying hops isn't illegal, but cannabis is.. so silly, but we all know that already..

I'm just talking about selecting the best. Hops are also harder to grow. There was a hop shortage a few years ago. I guess it takes years to fruit. This make the marijuana/beer debate even more absurd. The best hops all have to be imported from Europe. I remember all the beers with noble hops shot up in price. Good luck seeing them drop. All this devotion to the bud of the beer. Thing is you can make 200 gallons of it a year in your basement. You can actually for a modest investment be like the 3 Stooges and produce a lot of beer. You're in competition with the beer companies. But one seed and you're treated like Garret Morris from SNL. Who ever came up with this idea must be keeping all the good stuff to themselves.

getting any action for a seed shipment looks very rare, but a few jurisdictions seem to be worth more caution
Indiana seems a bit hardcore, there was a pretty famous Doctor bust who was growing MJ for his wife with some nerve disease - eventually case was mostly dropped and the Doctor got the hell out of Indiana
so it's not impossible, but way down the list of grower's dangers
