Paranoia about first time LSTing

Hey all,

I've been reading up on LSTing, as I have a couple sativa dominant plants growing, and don't have the height for giants. I've had them on a 12/12 light cycle since they were a week old. Anyway, this morning, after doing a bit more reading, I decided to LST the taller of the two.

Thus, this:CYMERA_20130317_124447.jpg

became this:CYMERA_20130318_085837.jpgCYMERA_20130318_085849.jpg

Then I got high and paranoid that I screwed something up. She still looks healthy, as its only been a few hours, but I am still hoping someone can put my mind at ease. :(

Thanks!

Right on, guys, thanks! I wasn't even this paranoid with my infant daughter...then again, I never tied her into an unnatural position with tape and pipe cleaners!

Cheers!

Ha.. in a few harvests you will be over it and instead of LST you will just reach down and bend and snap them into whatever position you want without blinking an eye.

That said, it's good to be gentle, concerned.. and as you get a better feel for it, you'll know exactly how far to press em.

ya you will get a feel for how you like to bend them..my opinion of what you did is it was slightly overkill for that small size i dont even start lsting until about 8 to ten inches and also stay away from using those pipe cleaners use a thinner soft string instead because any type of metal or fishing line will cut through the plant and the fuzzy part can possibly cause mold growth if they stay wet..all that said you will still be just fine just get some string and let that little thing do some growing dont over train it

you may have sativa dominate strain but most likely it is a hybrid from an indica also. it looks more squat and broader leaves so you could have an indica phenotype coming out. sometimes it can be hard to know the first couple of weeks. you'll know when they flower for sure

Right on, guys! I thought the pipe cleaners would be great since they're soft, but you're absolutely right: that wire in the middle is super thin and could easily slice into the stem. I'll make sure to change it out soon.

Somebeech: the seed was from a nug of NYC Diesel, though the source of the pollen was unknown. So, it might not be sativa dominant anymore (and I agree about the leaf shapes), but it was growing a lot bushier than my other plants had, so I figured there had to be some remaining sativa dominance. I can't wait to actually smoke some to see what the effects are, as the nugs I pulled the seeds from were definitely sativa dominant.

Thanks again all, and btw, she's still looking happy and healthy these few hours later.

They love to be bent, tied down, topped...

Here are some LST results:

Started with this:

LSTed it like this:

And got a bush like this:

Here is a bend I made to slow down the main tip:

It all works! Have fun :)

Cheers,
Mo

Wait until you split the main stem down to the dirt mid-flower.

Be careful pulling branches apart when the plants are older.

I was tying some branches down and split the stem. I wrapped a piper cleaner around it. A few days later the stems coming off either side of the split were the diamater of a nickel and grew the biggest colas in the whole garden. Maybe some kind of super cropping thing happening.

Anyway, LST away.

i second that...the larger and older the plant the more woody the older parts get and more succeptable to a break..i had that happen one time and never will i forget the feeling of pulling to hard lol..newer branches and upper growth is always easier to bend faster!
