Overpriced Nutrients..get better nutrients for a lower price

Don't worry Jack, I can take care of myself.

1) If the man has 30$ of 100x concentrate, that equates to 30 cents a gallon DILUTED . (30/100) = .30

2) Lets add 100 gallons of water to the 100x concentrate, THE WATER COSTS 15 cents/gal (remember there is 4-5 gal run-off when producing RO) . That equates to 15$ of RO water not .03c. So (.15 * 100) = $15

3) What you have then is 100 gal of 1X concentrate. ($30) and 100 gal water ($15) 15/30 * 100 = 50%

Now at least in your latest post here your at admitting 10% of the cost in water instead of .00498 in your previous post. But this time you failed to consider the total cost to process the RO water.

I know your trying to save face but you need to man up and apologize to Fatman.

patlpp,

I stand corrected and now see the error I made in misreading what the fatman said. It takes 5 gallons of water (at .03 / gallon) to end up with 1 gallon of RO'd water which makes the cost of that RO'd gallon $0.15.

I'd offer the fatman an apology but some how I don't think he'd be interested in hearing it.

I've noticed that, for the most part, one side of this argument is much more likely to insult the other.

Apparently the people who buy commercially prepared fertilizers are all stupid rubes who are being fleeced by companies they're too gullible to see through.

Those same people, however, rarely have a negative word for the people who DIY their nutes.

That alone makes me a lot more comfortable counting myself among the crowd who buy nutes.

I look at it like this:

I'm a good cook. I really enjoy preparing a meal that, while not likely to win me any awards, or even the title of gourmet, is something that very few restaurants would be embarrassed to serve.

At the same time, I don't want to do that every meal of every day. I appreciate the convenience and variety offered by going out to a restaurant and paying someone else to do that work for me.

The same goes for a great many things in my life. I can build a bookshelf or I can buy one. Which one I'll choose depends on whether I value the time or money more at that moment.

I can grow MJ or buy it. I prefer to grow it because I consider that the safer and smarter choice, but when it comes to nutrients I greatly prefer to pay someone else to do that work.

There's only so many hours in a day. It depends on how much you value each one of them, but if you think about it your job pays you a certain amount for each hour you give them. The ones you keep are worth just as much if not more.

Do the math for yourself if you want. For me I don't save enough money making my own nutrients than it costs me to pay someone else to, and even if I did save a lot there's still a finite amount of free time for me to spend and much more entertaining activities out there than I have time for anyway.

I even know how to sew and make clothes, but I still prefer to save my time for other pursuits and buy them at a store.
