Over 36 Hrs. Dark

USing the UV light is something that i've seen done throughout flowering.

The water doesn't have to be ice cold, just cold like tap cold. The theory is that the plant will be shocked into thinking that winter has arrived, and that the plant is at the end of it's life, so it will put out everything she has left, and she usually does it in 3-5 days. I personally like the 5 day process, always seems my buds are alot stickier then when i put them in dark.
I've been using cold water throughout my grow. I'm told colder water is more oxygen saturated than warm and therefore better for plant growth and development. Am I freaking my plants out? Should I start using warmer water? And if not, could I use even colder water before harvest for the same "winter is coming" effect?

By the way, I've never heard of 5 days of darkness before, but seeing as you've been growing for...ever...I'm going to give it a shot!! Thanks!!

not quite a secret , if high times ran it a few times , and if your ready to end your grow the cold may be worth a try cold kills ...from my experience .id consider hearing more with some documented results , or controlled studies.however w/o it id caution to try this at ones own risk .
Like I said...unless you've tried...stop knocking it. And i don't think ANYONE is gonna do a case report on this just for you.

Well I will be harvesting today in a little over 12 hours it will be 48+hrs of darkness after giving the ladies pretty damn cold water. Ill let you guys know if it seems like anything positive or negative happened during the dark period.

Go the 5 days...2 isn't enough honestly.

And remember...this works much better if you have grown the plants properly, ensuring proper food was givin so the plant can create enough sugars. An under-nurished plant will not show much of a change since it's already suffering and trying to make the sugars needed. A well grown plant will have all the sugars needed to produce the resin over the next few days as you're throwing her into overdrive.

NEED ADVICE ? Been growing indoor a little ,Ihave been on 12 hours budding for 7 weeks and the buds looks great! some amber and red hairs should I let them go a couple more weeks or soon?
Go 5 days complete dark, and water with COLD water before putting them in the dark, you'll be amazed at how much weight, resin, and density you will get doing that.

I wait till most of the hairs start receeding back into the bud. General rule of thumb is to let about 75-80% of the hairs turn colour. There is also a trich scope...but i don't rely on that...been growing long enough to tell when my girls are done. We didn't have trich scopes to use back in the good ol' days...lol.

Well, I iced one of them, and then let them sit in darkness for 46 hours. All the plants were covered in crystals, with no noticeable difference between the one that was iced and the ones that were not. I have not sampled any yet so we will see, but just from looking at them the ice did not have any effect.

You guys are not listining to the point of this. Do it for 5 days, and use cold water...not ICE water...LISTEN to what I say not what you want to hear.

And like I said, if the plant is healthy and has carbs built up, this method will work like a charm. It's not meant for new growers who don't want to listen, or for people that have less then healthy plants.

No need to get worked up man, I know what you said.

46 hours worked for my schedule, so that's how I went with it. I put ice in the water to get it cold, because normally my water sits for days in a tank with an air pump. That's why I had ice water, and most of the ice was melted by the time i used it. Whats the difference anyway? Ice water and cold water are both COLD.

Anyway, I will be trying this again sometime. My plants did have some deficiencys later in flower so it may not have been the best trial for this technique.

the cold period at the end works, its well known. it can range, 12 extra hours to days... whatever works for you.

your trying to stimulate your plants into sensing that its live is near the end, like it is november/december and so it squeezes out that last bit of goodness. towards the end of your flower u should be droping your temps anyways. In this dark period, just drop the temps as low as possible and give it cold water... not ice cold water, you still want the plants to take in the water not shock them to the point they don't drink.

yes make sure you have healthy plants. If u have a 56 day strain, start it around this time... don't substitue this dark period at day 49, at that point your better off giving ur plants the amount of light that they're supposed to have. i repeat this is for healthy plants that are near the end of their real life cycle, don't cut early and give them a dark period... that defeats the purpose.

understand that these cold temps, cold water, and lack of light will make the plants drink less and so more water will stay in your medium. you don't want your medium full of water when u cut or else it will weight a lot and be messy to handle. ease yourself into this practice by giving small amounts of water til you know how to irrigate properly under these dark period conditions.
