outdoor topping

should this be done? i have read about "topping" before but im kind of hesitant about doing it.

1.) how much more bud will a plant that has been topped acutually yield?

2.) if i only top a plant once, will the overall bud quality decrease?

3.) if i only top a plant once, how much smaller will the overall buds be compared to the same plant that hasnt been topped?

here is my last question. Cannabis Photo Gallery - Early Misty/Early Misty Flowering

has this plant been topped many times? or is it normal to grow a ton of chutes like that?

As an alternative to topping, consider simply bending plant over to desired height. You can use stakes and 50-75 lb monofilament fishing line....I make little loops of panty hose to attach the line to stems.
A clear advantage of this technique (IMO) is that the lower branches bulk up better. I think I get bigger buds overall doing this, especially if you bend most of plant to parallel with the ground, all the scrawny lower branches and buds look like they are on steroids!
Also, there is no growth lag as there is with topping.

It is possible to get a female plant that will create that many chutes without topping, but maybe it is topped or pinched somewhere

I grew some plants outdoors and supercropped them and they yeilded 3-8 O's each not bad for bagseed and a my first time I don't think

I'll tell ya, Mogie you are the link queen!

Topping can benefit most growers by causing several main shoots instead of just 1. But it is entirely strain-specific. Some indica strains don't need to be topped. And some sativas will yield better if they are left alone.
And Wavels, when I tie down MY plants, it takes at least 90 lb test. :blsmoke:

You should do like I and all botany scientist do. Experiment for yourself with diffrent strains. That's the best way to answer your question. And horticultorlist scientist dosnt recommend pruning any plant (except shrubs becuz they have so many internodes that it dosnt affect their health. I disagree with most plant pics u see are pruned, any magazine I look threw 9 times out of 10 their growing naturally straight. Also bending plants does stress plants but its so little its barely even noticeable. Pruning can put a plant in shock.

Have a look at the two pics attached, my discreet bent plants that I have FIMmed and supercropped are coming along nicely, they are about 1 week into 12/12 and as you can see you can get many tips to grow big healthy colas. These plants may get 6-7 hours of good sun a day.

Don't be afraid to minorly harm your babies to make them stronger and healthier, you don't need to mangle them!

Enjoy!

no thatplant hasn't been toped or pinched it's just the classic christmas tree look if you top the plant instead of one mai bud you will get two top buds if you start pinching your plant at about a foot high and keep doing it until it starts showing hair pretty much every branch will become a main stem with the king bud everybody whants
