Outdoor Shed Grow... in the North!

Hey, this is not my first grow but it is my first time having to do it under such conditions. Outside, the average temperature where I live now is around -14c (6.8f), but sometimes can go much lower(especially with the windchill!) and my shed had no insulation whatsoever other than the building wrap under the siding. I have since constructed a small (3*3ft) grow room, and fitted it with (1)400W and (1)150W high pressure sodium light.

Growing only two plants in here at the moment while some clones take root. I have an exhaust fan at the top(unseen in pics) plus lots of air circulation thanks to 2 fans, one which generates heat while the lights are off. Also, I have a household radiator in there to help with the cold nights. The temperature inside the room is consistent around 24 degrees with the lights on, only off about 2 degrees when the lights go off. I decided to take caution and let it be a bit too warm as opposed to letting it get comfortably cooler since on a windy night who knows what could happen!

The ballast is a Lumatek one, it's digital and has done very well so far, lights up quickly and not a sound to be heard. The 150w is a security lamp with magnetic ballast but is dandy at secondary lighting!

Now on to the genetics.
The large Sativa in the pics is the Jack Herer plant. It's been growing 3 1/2 months now, and is starting in on week 4 of flowering. As you can see I got the one of the 2 sativa non haze pheno's(Jack has 1 indica, 3 Sativa), not sure which yet. It's my big haul for the next little while, and I can't wait! I have a few clones of this waiting around, I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

The indica in the pics is flowering as well. It's purposefully small, I just want to see what it turns out like. It's a cross between a Purple Kush mother, and an older male indica clone I have around that I love. I have a couple of cuttings from it if it turns out to be great! I have other seeds grown for later as well.

I always grow organic, soil only. I re-pot the plants 3 times during their life cycle, each time I put them into a new mix. The first is loose and rather shallow, makes for easy rooting. Second pot it goes to is a good vegetative mixture and consists of a thicker mix that drains well and still holds water. The final pot looks like the one the Jack Herer plant is in now, and consists of less nitrogen etc for flowering. Each pot has holes on the bottom for water to drain out. I know it's not how everyone goes about it, but it works great for me and I always have good yeilds and thick buds! I

So I will update on this board as often as possible to let you guys know how it's coming along!

I have two timers, one for a power bar that powers the 400w, 150w, the regular fan, and a household radiator. That is on 12/12 right now. I have a little heat fan that takes over during the dark periods.

Post a picture from the outside.
No problem, I'll post a few pics of the outside for you tonight.

As for the plant porno, it's not bad I must admit. Soon it will be much nicer. Before going balls out, I decided to just leave a couple plants out there while the clones continued to grow slowly under cfl's. I'm going to have 3 of the Jack Plants and a small SOG for the indicas, I'm thinking 6-8 plants. As some of you may be able to tell, the Purple Kush(indica) in the pic is different than what you might expect from PK, that's because I crossed it with a male I have here that is a total freak. It's inter-nodes are like millimeters apart, it's ultra short and has just ridiculously large stems. The seeds were used to make a few plants, and I kept this one since it had the smallest stature. The other 2 seeds I planted turned out male and I tossed them. I'm hoping my cross will produce a more compact version that retains the high and taste of pk. The fan leaves are gigantic for this stage of growth so the PK is displaying itself there, or course the high is really the only thing I care about being the same... I like new tastes so I don't mind bastardizing such a nice strain. Considering PK is usually about 2-3 feet when finished, I hope mine can come in around 2 feet even when grown SOG. I want to get as many of these little things growing as possible!

I'll make sure to make a grow journal when I do that... unfortunately I didn't register on this board until after flowering.

Also, I made a mistake. The pics of the Jack Herer plant above are actually 7 weeks into flowering.... so it should only be another 3 weeks. The PK hybrid is still only at 2 weeks. I will continue to update every other day. Thanks guys, check back often and I'll make sure to fulfill all requests for pics or info on growing.

Thanks again!

New pics! Also added the outside shot, you can see the section on the back where the room is.

We've entered week 8, lots of growth is size, and it was time to trim out the crap. You can see in the pics I removed all the useless microbuds etc at the bottom on the plant. My supplementary 150W HPS light is aimed at an angle to one side of the plant and I wanted to make sure it got all the way through to the other side. Also I find it very beneficial to get rid of the stuff that will produce little to no weed in the end.

TTT, just looking for any comments. Anyone else ever tried this? I'm just finding this totally new because it's hard to find any info on the net about how to get an outdoor room heated efficiently. I lucked into a decent set up that worked but I imagine it could be hell.

More pics coming tonight. The Jack plant is almost 6 feet tall !

That JH looks amazing. I would hope you could fill that shed up. Did you lay insulation before the drywall you put up? And how thick is the shed's door(s)? Is there weather stripping around the door? And if you had a 1000 watt light in there, you'd have more warmth from the light while getting ample light output.

End of Week 8 and we've got some new pics to put up. The Purple Kush hybrid is growing VERY VERY fast... I'm impressed with it and although it's not the nicest looking plant it's incredibly stout and reeks the whole room up on it's own. The Jack is filling out, and the top is just exploding in growth... check out the pics!

The PK hybrid starting to show some color.
