Outdoor growing/gardening question(s)

Im gathering all of my materials for my grow and im concerned about a few things...

1) How important is it to protect your plants from rain?

Im going to have a mixture of 1 part peat, 1 part vermiculite and 1 part perlite then for additives im using blood meal, bone meal and sulfate of potash magnesia. This should be a very "airy" mixture and im worried that my 3x3x2 holes are going to fill with water when it rains. So i had an idea.. Im thinking about putting black plastic over my "hole" and run my irrigation tube underneath the plastic. Would this do more harm than good?

2) Should i use heavy harvest if im using the blood meal, bone meal and sulfate? its time released so im thinking it should be ok, but im curious if anyone uses these organic additives and chemical fertilizers like heavy harvest.

Why not just amend the soil to benefit the plants natural growing traits? I use lime and slow release ferts and dig a big hole amend the soil and walk away I do all this in the fall so when spring comes I'm ready to plant with all the added benefits of amending the soil the season before. You do not need all the other shit you mention growing is easy just don't over think things and you will be rewarded with some lovely plants in the fall.. Good luck HTH.

You have a good thing going on, use what you got, add molasses & seaweed, epsom salt, greensand, whole ground cornmeal, but don't use the black plastic. It will cut off any oyxgen supply, kill microbes, bake the roots, etc. The rain will be good for making the plant strong. If a big storm is coming, cover, other than that, let Mother Nature run Her course.

Thing is i went out today to check on the plots i was going to use and guess what, people are playing paintball and riding 4 wheelers back there! I was pissed but i did some walking and found an even better spot, that i know people arent going to occupy for sure! Its surrounded by sticker bushes and the only safe way to get to the clearing is to walk in the river, which no one is going to want to do i this area. I can becuase i have waders.

Thing is im not going to be able to plant in this soil. This meadow is basically like a marsh, but its not swampy at all, but it is wet under the meadow grass. So it looks like im going to use pots, with the 1 part peat, 1 part vermiculite and 1 part perlite.

But should i not use the blood and bone meal now? I really like what they offer my plants. If i have to sub them out what should i use?


EDIT: Just did some searching on animal deterents and found coyote urine to be the best bet for me. Does anyone use this? how effective is it at keeping away deer etc..

With that line of thinking, don't water the plants. Moisture draws digging things. Don't plant anything, that draws plant eating animals. I agree, & understand the logic, but the shit I mentioned will guarantee healthy, fast growing plants. Latex coated chicken wire, not the shiny shit, will help, etc. Also, the Molasses will activate fast micro breakdown, deleting odors. I'm having to deal with the worse draught in 100 years, seriously. ANY soft, moist soil I use will be immediately focused by wild pigs, deer, armadillos, all that shit. It's just the nature of the beast.

I've been using heavy harvest for a few years now and i didn't need to add anything to it.I use one pale of promix some worm casting and some pete to help retain water per plant.i dig a shallow 4-6 inch bed mix the soil and dump it on top of the bed and stick the plant in it.2-4 lbs per plant every time using heavy harvest and very healthy plants.Plus you don't have to dig any damn holes

If you are going to have a hot humid summer, you will need to stick with mold resistant strains, like hollands hope or something similar.

If you are going to plant and walk away, then fert with a nursery grade time released fert. Nothing from Home depot etc. You can get a 6 or 9 month fert that will give your plants all that they need including micro nutes. If you wish you can add terra sorb crystals to retain moisture so you don't need to water them. If you keep your soil airy, drainage will not be a problem. Mulch over the top of your hole but leave a 4inch ring around the base clear. If you are concerned with mold in the roots, then drench the plant with a fungicide before planting.

You just need to urinate around them or save up a bit of piss in a jug. that will do the trick, I use bone and blood meal every year

I guess you read my posts?... But thanks for the advice.

Im still going to to go with the peat/vermiculite/perlite mixture with the additives. im just going to add my urine along with irish soap on a stick around each plant. i might also add coyote urine, but i doubt deer will mess with my plants in this area.

Yes, I read your posts, but if you are not going to nanny them, IE guerrilla grow, you are better off with a time released formula.

Yes, but only for a short time compared to a 6 or 9 month time released fert. No organic will last as long, that's all.

6 months for the blood meal to completely stop working and 9+ for the bone meal... so i think your wrong ...But thats why im using the heavy harvest with those organics ...These plants should be hugeeeeeeee even for the late planting

Go for it then. Plants absorb at different rates and weed is a nitro whore. Are you adding anything else for the finish?

fall heavy harvest...im starting with the spring for a month (or if it runs out) then switching to the summer formula and finishing with the fall formula. ...Should be amazing
