Outdoor Georgia Growers

I am newb and wanted some tips on growing in Georgia. Im from the Athens area and plan on planting in my garden once the weather starts to warm up in a week or two. Any tips or experience would be appriceiated.

I Grew In Middle Ga Last Year...It Should Be Warm Enough To Go Ahead And Start...Im In Tn & Starting Now So You Should Too..

Warm dosent have anything to do with it so much as the light cycle outdoors does. Planting too early will give you crappy veg results and chance them of starting to flower too early.
Consult an almanac and check on how much light your getting to know when you should throw em out in your area. Almanac.com is free and research saves a ton of grows.

Also, dont listen to someone who says Im doing it so you should too.... Lots of people know no better and unknowingly spread false information.


FISHING LINE keeps deer away like a god send. Make a perimeter around your grow area about knee and shoulder high. When they run into it they flip out like crazy, though if a human hits it you have a high risk of them wondering what its doing rigged up out there and finding your plants.
A bar of ivory soap also works well if cut into shavings as deer are afraid of human scents, bugs are attracted to it as it has fats in it they love to eat so dont put it within 5ft or so of your plot.

I live in another state now but I pulled some nice grows out twords the heard county/ lagrange area.
Use good dirt, without it you arent gauranteed good results.

Ok so I have started my outdoor Georgia grow. About 8 plants are in my backyard and 8 plants in an abandoned undeveloped neighborhood.

I planted late, 8 two weeks ago and 8 today. I was only able to dig good holes (3x3 ft) for two plants in my yard. The rest of the seeds I put in root riot starter cubes and then directly into the georgia clay. They all get around 6 hours of sun. Has anyone ever grown in clay without preparing the seedbed?

It will be interesting to compare the yield of my prepared seedbed vs non. but I would love to hear opinions on a range for how much yield I should expect.

good luck with the clay....its gonna be hard for the roots to take shine and have any growth stimulation...be careful with that...but do whatever you gotta do

I'm near Buena Vista, right now I've just got 2 going by my stables.. They're about a month old already, about 1.5' tall.. I'm hoping I didnt plant them too early, one is already showing its sex, which makes me think I planted it too early.

My grow in the abandoned neighborhood was a disaster. My seeds which I germinated and put in root riot starter cubes have disappeared from inside the cubes (birds?). I ended up digging holes and buying soil for ALL of my plants in my yard. The ones I planted directly in the soil stayed about two inches for two weeks versus the ones with good soil got up to 8 inches.
