I'm planning on growing some plants this coming spring and I was wondering...What is the Best fertilizer for plant it and forget it. I don't want to risk taking multiple trips because it is outdoors so I just want some ferts that will nurse the plant untill they have matured... Is this possible?

Good question.

A friend used Osmocote for years and had extremely happy results.

What I would do:

Dig a wide(at least three feet) shallow hole in an area with a lot of dead leaves/grass covering the soil. pull the leaves to the side before digging.

Once the soil is broken up, add Osmocote to the soil and turn again.

Plant a clone and then sprinkle more Osmocote in a ring around the plant, at least a foot away. Make this band about two feet wide.

Pull the leaves and grass back over the disturbed soil and water.

Come back when the plants should be done.

This should only be done where regular summer rains occur. It won't work where I live. We have up to seven months without rain, in central Cali.

The friend I spoke of used inner tubes and 30 gallon peat pots, loosely tied to trees hanging over a local stream, and floating with a few inches of peat pot in the water. He'd check them monthly, while fishing.

This system works beautifully, once mastered. Ever seen a boat full of buds?

I had a chance to visit other forums and found these other suggestions as well:

1.Go to walmart, Lawn and Gardening and buy Osmocote. It's in a pink bottle. You put it on your plants one time and it feeds it for 3 months. It had a slow release coating on it that only feeds you plants when it rains or you water them. It's the shit. Then when your plants start buddig buy the Expert Flower food. and work it in your dirt every 2-3 weeks while it's budding. It will make your plants look like they buds are going to bust.

2.Osmokote is good and I have used it for several grows. I have recently changed to organic fertilizers from Espoma. Plant-Tone and Tomato-Tone are the two I used last grow and what I will use this season.

Thank You all for helping...btw attitude is giving away free seeds!!! can't wait till this spring... I think I will make a trip prepare the soil with nutes cover with leaves then germenate and grow the seeds in a cup. take them to their permenant home after two weeks come back mid july and every week after to uproot the males and then at the end of september to harvest... I also plan on taking a trash can ther so rain water can collect and I can water the plants in case there is no rain in june/july
