Ott Light Question.

I got some Ott lights from home depot for the veg cycle. Are these just as good as T-'s? Also My friends said he uses his Ott from start to finsh and his plants come out good. I got some HPS for my flowing, but he keeps saying I don't need them. Has anyone ever grown from start to finsh with a Ott or a T-?
