Bud worms are out too. :(
I had bud worms hit my autos weeks ago. I used to think they were a late season phenomenon, but I was reading up on it and apparently they lay eggs from mid-summer on, so somehow the eggs know when the buds are full enough that its the right time to hatch, so as soon as my autos were ripe enough they started eating their big fat selves out.

Those cabbage white butterflies start laying eggs on my kale in May.
If your seeing moths, butterflies around at all they are laying eggs. There are a lot moths that only come out at night. I spray neem weekly up until about the 3rd week of flower. Now for the next couple weeks just a shot of BT to help combat them, it helps.

It's pretty great when you find them before they hatch

The green leaf is from my Black cherry soda, and the yellow leaf from my chernobyl

Well learn from my mistakes and don't forget about security. I had mine in a fenced backyard but they did get so big that they were visible from street.
Dog woke up in the middle of the night but I didn't think anything of it.
Only thing worse than bugs and mold is thieves.

Last year was first grow. From the four Mastodon plants harvested about 6 1/2 pounds, which is about 60 years worth of smoking at my level of consumption. The strain was supposed to be Indica dominant and ready by the end of September but by then still needed a few more weeks to finish. The rains cut it short and I had to harvest before fully ripe. The product is strong smokes nice but a bit speedy. No couch-lock or anxiety issues, just not the Indica stone that I like. Still it's a very nice day time buzz.

So, I don't need much. An ounce will last me a year. I don't want to invest in green house or hoop house to make extending the harvest possible.

Figuring I have plenty of daytime weed, I figured I'd try something different and ordered a high cbd autoflower to enable early harvest. My order was Med GOM 1.0 ($40/4 seeds including shipping) from Southern Oregon Seeds. They threw in five auto AK47 freebies. all fem

Looking at flowers with 15x loupe, some hairs are turning amber. Trichs mostly clear to cloudy, no amber trichs. The AK47 has a musky scent and the MED GOM 1.0 have a wonderful piney spice scent.

So far, pretty happy with everything. Seeds were started May 15. Using seed company's numbers, the AK should finish first, then the MED. This would be towards the middle to end of August. No sign of pests. I haven't sprayed anything. I have gone out at night to check a few times. No sign of pests then either. Just crossing my fingers. No PM. I did have PM on zucchini that was nearby my cannabis and ended them immediately. But that's mostly been it. Other than cabbage worms that I trap out on a stand of chard, no pests anywhere.

I didn't have pest problems with my grow last year either. Other than bud rot that got started after rains at end of September 2016 and never fucking stopped for weeks on end. Which is why I had to harvest before fully mature flowers on my photo-dominant Mastodon. Never have had a problem with pests in my organic 20 year old no-till plot. So, keeping fingers crossed and depending on all those beneficial around me.
Just an update, harvested autoflower Med GOM and ak47.

Converted most of the Med GOM to canna oil. I used fresh flowers and decarboxylated using sous vide method (2 1/2 hrs at 93 C water bath T). A 10 gram sample was put into a 240 F oven to dry. It came in at about 70% wt loss. Assuming 75% wt loss if I had dried the flowers, yield from Med GOM autoflower was 9 ounces from two plants. All has been put away into the freezer in the form of canna coco-oil. Roughly 1250-1500 grams of oil is in the freezer now. A test "coin" of 1 tsp oil gave a nice light buzz and a good nights sleep. Exactly what I was hoping for. The Med GOM is supposed to produce 5% THC/15% CBD. Some bud was set aside for dry/cure and smoking. I haven't smoked any yet.

I did lose some of the crop to bud worm and bud rot but pretty insignificant.

AK 47 was cut last night. Buds were good sized and sticky. Here's a couple:IM000008.JPG
sorry, crappy camera.

I have plenty of high THC canna oil and so all of the Auto-AK47 crop is set for drying/curing.

As a low use consumer and back yard grower, I must say I'm pretty happy with the auto-flowers. Wife is happy with the low THC/High CBD oil. She has arthritis joint pain and we're hoping the CBD will help with that. The previous crop made her anxious but it was strong and early harvest-speedy.

Harvesting an earlier producing crop allowed me to give it the full time to mature. I don't have a greenhouse and don't want one if I can get a good crop. This time, trics were cloudy with some amber along the edges of flowers where they had full sun exposure.

Started May 15, Harvest Sept 2-5. I figure about 4 ounces dry/cured bud per plant.

So far, other than the ash that's been raining down for the past few days, everything is going pretty damn good. My first plant started flowering on the 10th (obama ), second on the 14th (headbanger), third on the 18th (cherry pie), last one finally showed pistols around the 25th BB #3. I'm not thrilled about the BB hanging on that long. Its a 10 weaker at least. Crossing my fingers that the smoke and ash go away soon, and that the weather hangs on for a while longer.

The forests could use the rain, so a shower or two here and there couldn't hurt too bad. Happy flowering season.

Ps. The leaf blower came in very handy to remove all the shit that's been rained down lately.
