Not trying to be the burst-er of bubbles but most fruit grown from seed that was originally grown from grafted root stock will not fruit or if it does will not be worth eating. The fruit will be small and woody. Not just blowing smoke here (no pun intended) my family was in the citrus business. If you want to make a tropical tree graft like flavored fruits. Oranges, tangelos, tangerines, kumquats. Do not plant lemons or limes near sweet fruit. It will cross pollinate and will have a whole tree full of sour oranges.

Hey I've heard all kinds of things...but its all in fun... I can go to the store and buy oranges if I want...but trying to grow a tree is for fun.

I'm actually thinking about germing an avocado seed... I read that they take 7-15 years to produce any avocados!!!!!

It'll be interesting to see how far I get with this orange seed. The seed came from an orange from the store...

Multi grafted citrus trees are available at my local nurseries and markets - when picking the strains to graft you need to pick strains that have similar growth habits so that one doesn't dominate the rest. If one does appear to grow too fast it needs pruning to keep it at a similar size to the others or it will take over.
They are popular trees (although expensive) because they give the benefit of several trees for the space usually taken by one, definitely a benefit with urban house lots shrinking in size.

Avocados grown from seed are not the most reliable trees, most commercially available trees are grafted onto vigorous rootstock. A smaller growing tree with more desirable fruit grafted onto disease resistant rootstock makes the better plant - a shorter tree is easier to harvest.
If you do grow an avocado, make sure that it is planted in a well drained area as they do not like wet feet.
I'm hoping for a good crop of avocados this season as my trees have just set vast numbers of fruit and the 10 year drought is finally over ... times of plenty again :-)

hmmm, giving me ideas, we drive through the citrus farming area of our country occasionaly to go on holiday. Not so much now that my grandma passed away. But i bet I could nick a twig or two to graft.
