Oranges?

Has anyone tried growing oranges indoor?? I was eating an orange and as I was taking out the seeds I was like I should try to grow these.

I am currently trying to germinate the seeds in a paper towel. not sure if this is how you germinate orange seeds. Anyone ever tried??

Oranges grow on trees so an indoor orange grow might be a problem.

Believe it or not I wasn't high when I thought of the idea, I was just like these are some good damn oranges!!! You don't think i can get a least 1 orange?? You know marijuana grows on trees in the wild.

maybe if you grow it in soil then transplant into soil outdoors once it gets to big for your indoor area

I'm not sure what the size requirement is for them to produce fruit. Maybe you could bonsai it.

I have four seeds in a paper towel. Its been two days...I think one just popped but barely...we'll see tomorrow

Orange trees take seven years to bare fruit bro, and then it's only a small chance that it will be able to bare. All the trees for sale are clones (grafts) These will bare usually within 2-3 seasons of the graft taking.

Well crap seven years huh...shoot i guess this is going to take a while, lol!!

Well my seeds weren't germinating. I put them in a shot glass with water and forgot about them. I just took them out today. Also found out that you have to carefully tear off the outer seed coat before you germinate. I just peeled the outer coat and put them back in a wet paper... towel we'll see. I might have to start over because I left those seeds in the water for two days.

I think if I get the seeds growing I'll be happy.

Buy a dwarf orange tree . I have a lime one it fruited for me . These are breed to be grown indoors and everbearing .

How big does your fruit get?

Little 1 in limes from just window light . At one of the hydro stores here the owner has a 6 ' orange tree it fruits about tangerine sized oranges . Its pretty cool . Citrus is kinda fickle very hard to grow so far .

Orange and lemon trees are everywhere around here - just need a sunny climate. Never seen one indoors though.

I heard u can grow some strains indoors. Couple of years ago I have grown one plant on window and it yelded one small fruit

yes actually you can. i have 3 oranges growing...make sure if your going to germinate it to first soak the seeds and when the shell is soft enough you need to take the outer layer shell by using a regular nail cutter, i would advice to cut from the sides like doing a little nibble until you can take out the shell by your finger...its very slippery so u might need to concentrate. you just need to place it outdoors by the window once in awhile, and they love to be peed at. i have made a bonsai out of them 3 lemons and a couple of lemon. this are regular california oranges im talking about. you need to put them inside where they can get a light though...well every plants need sunlight mostly when its a tree, but yes you can grow one indoors, once in awhile i take her for a walk

To my surprise two of my orange seeds germinated!!! Will plant them tomorrow.

Planted in a party cup with potting soil. Will post again when it sprouts

what would be cool is to learn grafting (i think thats what they call it) went to Arizona to visit a friend and he had a orange tree that had 3 branches of lemon tree grafted onto it to get both fruits. i really want to learn the technique.

Yeah, Grafting thats the ticket!
I would love to have a citrus that was a multi variety.
I hear it's pretty simple to graft.
Something like cutting both parents with equal sized limbs at 45 degree angles on each branch you want to graft.
Add Root/shock stimulator to both cuttings.
Then match up one cut limb to the other mother.
#a Tree gets #b trees limb and vice versa.
wrap hempen twine to cut mother and cutting.
Prop up grafted limb. Cross your fingers and toes.
and there you go.
My buddy ~MrNiceguy~ also in a little district has shared this with me years ago, however I have yet to try it.
The hole process is very similar to cloning but you usually use a much bigger stalk/ or limb.

I would like to see some grafting, maybe if I can veg long enough (DOUBT IT) I would give it a try with some Bagseed.
