orange hairs

I was just looking at my plant and I noticed a few orange hairs. It is flowering but hasn't been for a very long time. Why does it have these random colored hairs?

I apologize in advance for the newb question.

thats how you tell when its ready to harvest when those are are about 50%of the hairs orange your buds are at the THC climax after that THC begins to break down hope this helps

Happy Growing

don't worry mine started turning orange around the 2-3rd week of flowering. it still produces white pistals. as time goes on it will orange more then it produces. new white ones

another thing if its isn't a normal occurance your lights may be too close..

That's exactly the situation, it still gets white ones but once in a while there are some orange ones. it's an outdoor plant...

Orange hairs are nice but not how you tell if your bud is ready. you can tell when its ready by a 30x scope or loupe, when the crystals are a 50% milky to 50% amber or somewhere in that range then your bud is probably ready.

good luck to you.

Mines defintiely not ready. it's ony been 2 weeks or so.

Can you tell me where to find a good loupe? I looked on amazon and they all had so-so reviews.

any 30x jewelers loop will suffice

they actually make a double loop.. with 15x on one side and 30x the other

I'm seeing the same thing, I think it's just normal after doing some research. Indicators of harvest are the trichomes and how to tell has already been covered so I'll ask this: what is your plant sativa or indica? Mine is Northern Lights #5 so i'm at week 4 and i'm seeing orange hairs so maybe you're growing an indica too.

not always do the hairs tell you when its ready. those ones could be orange/brownish due to you touching them, or just wilted from age.

They can turn up any time in the budding stage and be,orange, red, gold, purple etc......depending on genetics and nutrients. It just means the plant is starting to head into maturity.

I've never relied on loupe. I go by the amount of color change in the hairs and trying a small bud(s) when it looks close. When the high is to my liking,I harvest.

I grow for medication and recreation, not for sale,so a little loss in overall yield isn't a big deal for me.

about the magnifying glass...i have a 30x and i cant see trichs good at all i use a 30x for checking for bugs etc. i bought a 60-100x adjustable microscope from radioshack for 15 dollars after tax and it works awesome for seeing trichs!

I read on amazon that the loupes that say they are 30x are really more like 10x. I wonder how I would go about finding something that has decent magnification? I looked on radioshack and I didn't see anything cheap that looks like what I need.
