Optimal time frame to top before budding?

Is there an optimal period of time to top my plant before I start the budding cycle?

some people like to do it a few weeks into veg when it gets a few sets of leaves... my recommendation is to begin flowering, and then top it 1 week in. ive never had it fail. ive never tried anything else either. if it aint broke, dont fix it.
