opinions about a reflector

this reflector says it's the largest
http://www.growlightexpress.com/grow-light-reflectors-4/magnum-xxxl-6-air-cooled-reflector-157.html

can a reflector be too big?
once a reflector gets so large the would it lose enough intensity that it would actually have a negative affect?

would a 600 watt bulb work in a large reflector?

would a 1000m dual spectrum [600w hps / 400w mh] bulb be more intense than a plain 600 in this reflector?

am i just thinking too much and this reflector is not big enough to be concerned about

thanks

there is thred on icmag where a ass load of refector were tested and this one came out on top
http://www.growlightexpress.com/grow-light-reflectors-4/super-sun-2-reflector-43.html

the one you have posted was not done but a assload was and the super sun was beaten by none
You always have a lot of definitive information. Be it strains, tech, or whatever else. Would you mind sharing the root of this knowlege with the rest of us? Just so you know, I'm not mocking, I'm serious. I want to see this particular test, the data, how they collected the data, and what criteria was used in their determination.

pico started the test he layed down the basic idea behind it
2or maby even 3 well exp grower also added alot of test useing his lay out

all the info is in the thred

but basicly set diffrent reflectors at 12"18"and 24 " made 16-24 marks on floor measure whith light meter at all 16-24 marks at all 3 settings then repeated test whith next reflector

same warm up time for ballist and bulb
same bulb and ballist and bulb was used for all test

also i know very little and still learn whith every grow. but do enjoy trolling fourms and helping when i can

i also would like to see the thread where they test reflectors, so if you could post a link that would be awesome. i think a 600 would work with that reflector, socket size is standard on grow lights to where any size should work. and yes a light that is 600hps and 400mh should be more intense than just a 600hps. honestly though i dont see size as being a good selling point for a reflector, it is just more distance the light travels before being reflected, thus losing intensity along the way and reflecting a light that is already weaker. bigger is not always better, at least when we're talking reflectors not penises.

Dude, you don't take compliments very well do you? lol I told you I was serious. I knew the way it was worded, it would come off like I was mocking or doubtful. That is not the case here. Take it for what it was meant to be, a compliment followed by an inquisitive mind hoping to see the how/where about the test, that's all. Chill.

And as far as my grows, my experience is mostly from more than 6 years ago, but for 10 years straight. I never took more than a couple rolls of pictures (still on photopaper lol) the entire time...just too paranoid. I'm stoked that others share theirs on here, but I'm still too apprehensive. Maybe that'll change though, who knows.

Most of these are from over 10 years ago..

I'm tired. I just read 25 pages of from that link you posted bostongeorge. In the end, several were competitive, but what it all comes down to are a few different things.

What's the priority? Lumens, lumen spread, cooling capability, and/or craftmanship.

After what I could deduce from reading all that, the Sun System 1 OR 2 6" look like great choices, along with Daystar6", and Radiant 8" Oh, and the sweet spot for almost all of these choices as far as lumen spread was somewhere between 18 and 24". Hope that helps people.

An analogy here would be burning ants with a magnifying glass, a larger magnifier glass would mean quicker toasted ants not less. Buy your reflector because of how well its built and how well it does its job and that link about reflectors is a great resource.

You could run either a 600 or a 1000 in that reflector. The 600w bulb will give you more lumens per watt than the 1000w fixture would so cheaper electric bill. Useing a dual spectrum of HPS and MH during the bloom is noticably more advantages than just HPS. The more full your light spectrum is the better. I have yet to find a dual arc bulb for a 600w fixture so I have seperate 600w MH lamps in my room. The 1000w fixtures allowing you to use those dual arc bulbs are excellent however you will get more lumen for your monthly dollar with 600w fixtures.

If your going to do both MH and HPS in the bloom room then you might also want to do a google search for the "Growzilla reflector" I havent tried these yet but basicly its a reflector that will hold 2 bulbs. so you could have 1200w or 2000w in the same reflector.
