Old Seeds

I've got some Dutch Passion fems that I received in October of 2007 (less than 2 years ago). They are germinating normally but when I get them into soil they aren't makin' it above ground. It's really strange because my understanding is that seeds stay good for several years; I've kept them in a closed drawer in the original stealth plastic containers that I got from the seed bank. I would expect them not to germ at all if they were bad. The soil I'm putting them in is a brand-new bag of FoxFarm Ocean Forest.

Anyone have experience with old seeds, and does what I describe align with normal behavior of older seeds?

id say if they break the seed they should grow. how long has it been?

Well I'm germing a new one right now; nothing is in soil at the moment but the last one... maybe 3-4 days went by and there was like a small amount fuzzy material (mold?) that seemed to have oozed from inside the seed. The time before that, several days passed with again no seedling development at all... it kinda just shriveled up a bit and I pulled it.

It's the strangest thing because like you said, I thought if it germs you're good to go. Seedling goes into FoxFarm soil, little bit of water to moisten things and then plastic wrap on top to get a nice greenhouse going on. Standard procedure, worked all the time for me... but now I feel like I'm fucking up because I just can't believe these seeds are germing and never sprouting at all...

well its not anything your dooing, its the funky old seeds

if you really want to get a plant growin plant some bagseeds and take care of that untill either one of these sprouts or you get new pro seeds

well it might be age or other symptoms can be age related .... but the girl that is approaching maturity in my grow journal is from seeds purchased in October 2006, and grown now .... I was suspect at the time of popping them .... but thought I would give it a try .... I am more than a little pleased with the result thus far ....

I have bag seeds from 2000 that I just started but what I do is germ them in a ziplock with the top open and let them sprout out the top

check them daily and if need be crack the shell with your fingers or tweezers

Hi tahoe, I remember you from a couple of years ago because we joined up as noobs at about the same time. Lucky you and your seeds, mine apparently suck ass.

@Kaleo, I'm just workin' thru what I have left and hopin something will work for me. But I'm thinking of going ahead and placing an order...

While I got you 2 here... any strain recommendations? My last order was Dutch Passion Mazar & Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough (the cough -- highly recommend btw). I prefer fems since I grow1-2 plants at a time in the closet under CFL. Was thinkin' of trying their blueberry... what do you guys like these days?

Yeah thanks man, they're not even getting to the point where they need help getting out of the shell. There's no green, no nothin' inside but what they start out with as seeds. Nothin.

im behind BC GOD all the way, i havnt grown it (or anything in the past few months) but it is by FAR the best weed ive ever smoked. 5 hour high, def a creeper, and the only weed id let my friends pay 25g for (as long as its not my money right? =P)

Is that a heady buzz? I tend to be a fan of sativa's; I see this one is 75/25. Is there enough head tingle from that stuff to keep you somewhat motivated?

Cool. Your recommendation is awesome by the way, for a couple reasons:

1) BC God is available as a fem
2) They have a blueberry fem strain as well
3) Prices are excellent compared to DP fems!

So that leaves one question if you don't mind, before I grab my wallet and order -- are they trustworthy for shipments to the US?

They *are* in Canada. That's a plus I would think, you'd assume that customs are a bit more on-alert on overseas stuff than coming over the Canadian border, right?

hey maN .....coool ... nlow I remember ..... yea .... strains? well that SC I have heard lots of good about, Headband is another one that I think I might like, but I guess it coes down to what ur after .... I have a bent for the racyness oof sativas ... I like my action hero pot ... hahahaha! but I went to TGA Subcool ... mostly cuz I really like his pictures .... no actually the genetics and the reputation ...... I am VERY excited about DairyQueen - UK Cheese x Cindy99 .... that should be pretty serious. Anotehr one high on my list is BlueMoonshine .... anything with |narcotic| in the description HAS to be worth it .... and despite my failure with BlackDomina this round .... I really do want to try that again ..... maybe there's a reason it didn't grow for me ... cuz it would flip me to ....|the other side| ... hahahahaha!
