First of all, Your not curing the buds, your drying them.

You have to wait til the buds are completely dry before you cure em'.

The way to tell if your buds are dry is when the stems/branches actually snap when you bend em.

Once their dry, you chop the buds in smaller pieces and place in mason jars loosely..

Every day you wanna open the jars for a few minutes and reseal..

After a few weeks of curing, the bud will start smelling good, and then its smokeable.

You have to stay patient if you want top notch smoke..

"smell bad" what do you mean
as in you think it molded
or it starting to smell like you have a ton of bud and not a 1/4

Thank you for the reply I did wait until the stems snapped before placing them in jars maybe I just need to cut them up more.

I'm scared it could have molded but I cant see any, but its got a weird smoke to it and it doesn't smell like weed or have that hay smell.

AHH I hope not but I'm going with the crammed jar scenario.

most of the time my bud doesn't smell all that great after i dry it.. when i first chop it, it smells great, than it tends to lose the smell, than after a few weeks cure in mason jars that lovely smell will come back to the buds.. my mk ultra was like that for sure.. smelled not that good about a week or so in jars, but after a month or so, holy f'ing sh%t, that lovely kush smell stunk up the whole room... give it some more time and relax a lil..

It is nothing to worry over, it is the smell of chlorophyl escaping, it will go away soon and after curing longer the bud smell will then return. it takes time. the hay smell is normal, dont freak out over nothing, just properly cure and you'll be absolutely fine, trust me.

ok now i understand
this is whats what
weed wont get the dank cronic smell untill after it has aged and cured for some time
right now its going to smell and taste like fresh cut lawn

just follow this

flush plant by feeding plain water no nutes for last 2 wks (improves taste)
cut, trim, hang dry 5-7 days @ 40%-50% humidity
smoke
or
cure:
place in mason jars 3/4filled. sealed tight for 12hr in a dark place
open jar and take buds out and let dry for 30m to 1hr or untill dry to touch
replace in jars resealed in a dark place
repeat this for 2wks to a month or untill buds nolonger become wet in jar after 12hr
now smoke
or seal away for long term store

I'm confused, are you saying you dont dry your buds before you cure them? After a few days of cure i no longer get moisture on the lid or sides of the jar or the buds anymore. I'm just wondering so dont take it the wrong way, your first option is something ive never heard of, but im interested in it, describe the benefits of doing it that way please, is it just to make it so its smokeable sooner? Would you still get the degradation of mostly useless cannaboids into thc like with the normal way?

Thank you so much I appreciate the information. The bud is always dry to the touch it never seemed to be wet and I hang dried them for 5 days exactly. Does this happen some times?

Harvesting too early will also cause plants to retain the chlorophyl scent and taste longer and sometimes the smell never goes away after a premature harvest. Did you take them down early by any chance?

well i did a lil test my last grow and in my studies ive found that if u wait to trim AFTER u dry, the smell is retained MUCh better then trim before u dry. not exact on why but i trimed a couple colas at harvest then waited til dry on the others, the other were the STANKEE jars.
