Hi, basically as the title depicts I am ready to buy an AC unit... but am not to sure whats good and whats not and what size BTU? that I'll need..

I have a 2 plant DWC cab with a selection of 250w, 400w, & 600w HID lamps used (one at a time).. but my main prob is the INSANLY HOT WEATHER that were having... my grow room should 'SHOULD' be 26 oC but with this heat wave its between 33 oC and 37 oC and thats with my in-line Prima Clima fan on full...

My Res should be 18 - 20 oC... but thats 33 oC :( :( :( so bad times !! I looked into water chillers but they carrier a very large price tag..

So..

I am wanting to get an AC unit, my cabs in my Bedroom, we have no vents in the room, but have a few plastic windows (Double Glazed) if that matters ???

I want ultimately to cool both my cab and the room its in...But depending on cost it'd be nice to cool the whole upstairs (3 small rooms) ..

What is BTU ?? and how much do I need ??

Please reply asap cos I am going to buy the best one that some one on here surgests, cheers - STELTHY :leaf:

BTU Is british thermal unit.and its basically the more btu's your using the more powerful of a unit. more btu's=more cooling. You can pick up a window air conditioner pretty cheap at walmart.like 90$ on sale sometimes.and a small unit will cool 1 room pretty easy.3 rooms depends on the size of the rooms but considering its upstairs(and heat rises) it would take a 240 volt unit for that much room.a unit this size would cool your room and cab for sure.5,000 btu's would do it.http://www.walmart.com/ip/5-000-BTU-Frigidaire-Energy-Star-Window-Air-Conditioner-with-Remote/14321336 so if you can find 1 this size cheaper then go gor it

Im not sure honestly on watts but its a 110 volt hookup.I talked to my hydro man today about air units for you and he said you need a portable one to keep smell from emmitting from your house as the air unit sucks air out of the room it will suck odor also (which i didnt think about) he has portable air conditioners and they run around 500$ but they cool rooms better and only blow clean odor free air outside. It wasnt just like this 1 but heres an example.http://shopping.yahoo.com/2146085-wa-1010h-portable-air-conditioner
shop around online and im sure you can find 1 that will fit your needs.

This powerful, stylish and high-tech personal mobile air cooler from brand leader Honeywell offers superior cooling performance to fans and most other air coolers.

It uses "evaporative air cooling" technology which imitates the natural cooling action of the sea: by sucking in warm air at the rear of the unit and passing it through the very latest design water-saturated honeycomb heat absorber, air temperature is significantly lowered.

The result is much cooler, refreshing air blown out via the front - unlike a fan which simply circulates warm air at room temperature or other evaporative coolers that do not use a honeycomb absorber, plus as this is not an air conditioner there's no noisy compressor, or hot air to pipe out of a window.

Features:

honeycomb cooling media (heat absorber) for optimum cooling
smart piano black and silver design
powerful 400m3/hour air flow
simple to use and quiet
energy efficient (just 100Watts)
10litre water tank
variable speed
oscillating louvres
LED control panel and remote control
Measures 80cm x 34cm x 40cm

Iam going to post a few I ve seen if you could leave comments that would be great.. (this is mainly to cool 1 bedroom with 1 HID cab in it) ... Bedroom is 14"x12" I have a normal opening front window, please advise me on the best one to suit my needs :) - STELTHY :leaf:

will raise the humidity level and once the water gets warm it stops working, you have to change the water.

one like this will work but you have to deal with the heat coming out of it. unless you put it out the window

depends on how big they are. I don't know for sure but mine is pretty warm on my hand never cared to test it. if you just let it vent into the room it is just fighting itself.
Ok thanks for the tip... are they all able to exhaust with ducting or is that just a select few ? - STELTHY :leaf:

Portable Air Conditioner - White - 9000 BTU
Product no. 373186

This Portable Air Conditioner is a slim and compact air conditioning unit.
Wattage: 950W.
Heat output: 9000 BTU.
Features: 12 hour timer, 60.3 litres per day extraction (30oC 80% RH), 1 litre tank.
Usage: Suitable for rooms up to 20 sq m.

I am going to buy one of these.. its only 9000BTU but is says it will cool a room thats 20m x 20m so that'll do nicely also I think the lower BTU will mean a cheaper leccy bill.. I hope :)

What are your thoughts ?? - STELTHY :leaf:

The portable a/c units for growing Im talking about have ducting style hoses so they would work with any window.
