Ointment Questions - Decarb, Lecithin, Roots?

I’m getting ready to make another batch of ointment and thinking about a few changes. I prepared my previous batch pretty much the same as I do for edibles. Decarbed, coco oil with lecithin, multiple heat/freeze cycles then added some emu oil and beeswax to make the topical. It worked just ok for the chronic pain in my hands and feet but really shined for more sporadic aches and pains such as a sore back, knee pains, stiff neck, etc.

For this upcoming batch any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated on the following:

Decarbing – I’m primarily concerned about pain control; does it help or is it just a waste of time?

Lecithin – I know it helps absorption in edibles; does it also help transdermal absorption or have another benefit?

Cannabis roots – I plan on using some root this time; anyone else used roots before?

Do your home work, but I think you want a CBD heavy weed variety then Decarboxalation at 300 degrees for 15 minutes.
that temp should help convert the CBDN into CBDs to add to the pain relieving aspect of the bud THC will also be created by the transformation of THCN to THC.

for topical I've seen accelerated penetration and saturation of skin if you apply your mix to skin, then wrap the areas in plastic wrap and tape or rubber bands to make water proof, then submerge the areas under as hot water as you can handle for 10-20 min.
the hot water bath will expand skin, oil, and absorption rate

please let me know how it goes if you use it!!

I dont see the need for decarb when making topicals.
I agree with you at first thought, but then thinking again you'd want all the THC/CBD-Acids to convert to THC/CBD, because that will give you more material to work with if you want to do a secondary conversion say to CBNs for example, which is a fuller realisation of potential towards the PM, sleepy-time + anti-pain/inflammatory effects of the chemicals in the plant. A friend of mine goes for CBN max to help ease multiple sclrosis pain.

it's not a necessity for ONLY effect/functionality, it's a step for those who want to maximize the output potential of the chemicals in the plant

if you don't decarb, then you basically just are throwing the THC-A/CBD-As into the waste bin = loss = -$

But the OP is making a Ointment/Topical.........................no psychoactivity will be produced when absorbed into skin. Keeping it in THC-A for because of it's anti-inflammatory properties, treating muscle spasms and pain.

... or convert it to THC and then a 2nd conversion to CBN for anti-inflammatory and pain killer properties + sedation (for deep restful sleep)...
