My electric bill is so high? its just becoming oppressive. I mean im only running like a 600W'er and a few fluorescents (and almost negligibly so), and I'm getting 400 dollar bills for 24/0. Are my ballasts broken? ('Ballasts', and not 'ballast' is a story of its own) Do i need to do something different? Is it The outlet im using? I live in Michigan btw

look at your bill and see how much you're paying per kw/h... take this number and multiply it x .6 for the 600 watter..
let's just say for ex you're paying $.10 a kw/h, you'd then x that by .6, and then by the number of hours in a day it's on, for you that would be 24 hours a day, then times that by 3o, for the days in a month, or the billing period for the bill...

it would look like this.. $.10 x .6 x 24 x 30.... equals...... $43.20 if you only paid ten cents per killowatt hour..

so by me math, if you were only running the 600 watter and nothing else, you'd be paying close to $1 kw/h, which is pretty much unheard of, so something doesn't sound right...

was the bill an estimation or did they read the meter?? sometimes if they can't get in to read the meter, they do an estimated bill which always ends up being way higher then it actually is most of the time..
shit's not adding up for me though, one 600 watter shouldn't be pulling that much power...

how much was your bill before you added the lamp and grow?? that would be a good place to start..

Also, run your lights at night on a timer. Sometimes the rates are lower and the temp is cooler. Is your A/C running 24/7? Like Racer asked, what was your bill before? The bill should have your kw/hr rate on it. Something isn't right. Please describe your set up including ventilation.

i wasnt paying the bill before i got the ballast. The bill was outrageous when i had a thousand watter as well. I will find out what the 'lectric company charges per kilowatt hour.
this is a disaster
